The Old Testament, which was under the law and again I say the Old Testament, is full of many scriptures instructing the people to give a tithe of specific things that they had. However, where Jesus has fulfilled the law in the New Testament the Bible states to us clearly to be the following; cheerful givers, to give to the poor and to give to those who are worthy of the work they do and that’s in reference to those who work in the body of Christ. Beyond that we give simply because of the love in our hearts. For instance when money is given to the churches that many attend, it should be not because they have to, but because they want to. It should be because of the love they have for the ministries that they’re under and again, because those who are the workers in those ministries, the pastors, prophets, teachers, evangelists as well as those on the payrolls of those ministries deserve to be taken care of in ways that are good, just and not overbearing. Again, to be coerced, bagered and pressured into giving does not glorify the Father. When the body of Christ is intimidated and compelled into giving it means that it’s not from their hearts. It means that the giving is not being given cheerfully and it will accomplish nothing for the one who gives.
