  • This One Time When... Experienced Culture Shock in the South

Jenn and Laura remember when Jenn moved from Southern California to “the South”.  They discuss all of the differences between being a California and a North Carolina resident.  Food, manners, speech, and cultural expectations are all discussed in this fun episode.  Jenn even discusses the couple times she was hit on as an adult when she moved to the new area.

Have you moved across various regions in the United States and noticed a difference?  Do you feel comfortable where you are or is there a certain area that seems to “call” to you?

Our goal is to share laughs, cries, and life lessons while connecting women around the world. Disclaimer:  The differences we discuss are just that, differences.  Not one type of living is good or bad.  Regions in the United States can be so different that they feel like a different country. We are not trying to offend. This is just a fun discussion between friends about adjusting to life in a new area.

  • This One Time When... I Was Duped By A Pyramid Scheme

Jenn and Laura go back in time to the Lularoe craze that swept social media.  Lularoe was a clothing company who were first known for their maxi skirts and leggings that were super comfy and “buttery soft”.  The pieces of clothing had bright colors and bold patterns. The company did not have a storefront, instead they distributed their clothing through consultants. Their company grew quickly as it gained more and more popularity on social media.  Social media showed the success of many women, who were consultants and  successful entrepreneurs from the comforts of their own homes.

In 2016, Jenn signed up to be a Lularoe consultant.   In this episode Jenn and Laura cover why she onboarded with the company, her experience and why she left the company in just under a year. She also covers the issues that made her time as a MLM consultant unprofitable.

In early 2021 Lularoe settled a class action lawsuit in Washington State. Not admitting to any wrongdoing, Lularoe paid out a little under 5 million to former consultants. The state found Lularoe’s statements about profitability to be misleading.  It was also found that the company violated Washington State’s Anti Pyramid Scheme Act.

  • This One Time When...My Child was Bullied and Introduced to Pornography

Jenn and Laura discuss a time when one of their kids was bullied at middle school.  Middle school is hard as it is.  The child told an adult about the lunch table discussions that were highly pornographic in nature.  The school took care of the situation but handled it poorly. The other students recognized quickly who the nark was and made the teenager pay. As a result, the child was bullied, ostracized and continuously picked on all semester.

They discuss the issues teenagers today have to face vs what they had to face.  Jenn and Laura also talk about ways they as parents try to help their kids, what they’ve seen work and not work, as well as how her child came out of the situation.

Have you had a similar situation? How have you handled it?  We are curious to hear about your experiences.  Please find our contact information below, we would love to hear from you.

  • This One Time When... I Got Hit on my Bike by a Moped

Jenn and Laura remember the time that Laura got hit by a moped while on her bike in the Netherlands.  Bikes are not a staple in American culture  like they are in Dutch culture.  Laura hadn't ridden her bike regularly in the United States prior to her arrival.  She did the grocery shopping and traveled everywhere by bike. However, the weather, learning the Dutch biking rules, and a language barrier, created a perfect “newcomer” expat experience within the first month of arrival.

  • This One Time When... I Texted The Wrong Person

Have you ever texted the wrong person? In episode 5, Jenn and Laura celebrate April Fools Day sharing "This One Time When..." Laura texted Jenn's husband, Dylan.

Dylan, Jenn’s husband,  is the master of them all. He plays pranks on their kids, on Jenn and on Laura.  From hot sauce tastings with the kids to hacking into Jenn’s social media accounts pretending to be her, the man knows no bounds when it comes to practical jokes.  It was so bad one time that Laura started texting about a movie star’s butt, only to find out 15 minutes later she was talking to Dylan.

Come and listen along to some of Dylan’s shenanigans and find out how the term “Man Butt” came to be.

  • This One Time When...We Used the Park as a Babysitter

Jenn and Laura revisit their park days with the kids.  They discuss how they spent hours and hours at local parks for “easy and free” entertainment.  Oftentimes, they stayed for hours on end, let the kids live off snack foods, and escaped the other responsibilities of motherhood under the guise of “spending time” with the kids.

They even had the bright idea to send 5 kids under the age of 9 to the neighborhood park with a cell phone.  That venture did not pan out quite like they hoped. Take a listen and find out what happened.

  • This One Time When... I Stole My Neighbor's Cat
Jenn and Laura explore how being a “helpful” neighbor can backfire.  They discuss that time when Laura inadvertently stole the neighbor’s cat.  They discuss how sometimes trying to be helpful and thoughtful just isn’t perceived by others that same way.
The neighbor’s cat seemed to be locked out during a freezing winter weekend. Feeling bad for the cat, she decided to let it in her house, and feed it. Even though in Laura’s mind, the cat’s stay was temporary, the cat did not think so… nor did her neighbors.

  • This One Time When... Netflix Turned Me Vegan

Jenn and Laura explore the influence of Netflix health documentaries. They discuss in depth about 2018, that one time when Jenn watched What the Health and Forks Over Knives, on Netflix. These documentaries encourage the viewer that animal products are bad for health and people’s longevity.

After watching the documentaries, Jenn changed her lifestyle and became a vegan for a year.  Changing not only her own diet, but her children as well, she explains some of the challenges and benefits she experienced eating solely a plant based diet. Jenn also shares why she left veganism, and why the proposed “health benefits'' of veganism, are similar to that of a healthy diet.
