As we near the 4th of July, we must recognize the greatness of our nation is a result of its foundation being built on the truth – “we hold these truths to be self-evident …” Every human life, every family, every organization, and every culture thrives to the extent it aligns with truth, and suffers to the extent it strays from the truth. Our revolution of souls and society is first and foremost a renewed commitment to pursue and practice truth.

The truth will set us free, but first, it might make us mad. We have to love enough to be ok making ourselves and others mad initially to be able to thrive ultimately.

Memorial Day is a national holiday – it is next Monday, May 29th this year. It is the day we honor those who have died while serving in our country’s military. Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

This year, may we not only remember the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for our nation but may their sacrifice serve to revive the same spirit in us today. May their ultimate expression of sacrifice and love capture our hearts to rise to the same level of commitment to return our nation once again to truly be the one nation under God we must be if we will continue to serve not only our posterity but also the world as the clear beacon of human freedom and flourishing.

The subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 cost Americans 8 trillion dollars financially – all a result of lowering the standards of offering mortgage loans. Every time we lower standards in any arena, the ultimate outcome is human suffering. We must love enough on the soul and society level to raise standards – morally, educationally, and in every other arena of life. When we raise standards souls and society can thrive. If love isn’t tough, it isn’t love.
