William “Junior” Pierce is America’s most forgotten serial killer. Convicted in the early 1970s of killing nine men and women in an eight-month long killing spree through Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, Pierce was sentenced to 880 years in prison.
We first met Pierce in episode #6, when we investigated the rape and murder of 13-year-old Peg Cuttino – a crime that Pierce was convicted of. What we learned, was that Pierce was a petty criminal who was tortured into confessing to a crime that he likely did not commit.
Now, for an even closer look at the facts behind this incredible southern gothic murder mystery, Sean interviews Kenneth Young Jr., a Sumter County lawyer who tried three times – in the ‘70s, the ‘80s and the ‘90s – to prove that Pierce was innocent of the crime.
Is it possible that America’s Most Forgotten Serial Killer never killed at all? How many murders went unsolved in the haste to convict an innocent man? And how does maniacal serial killer Pee Wee Gaskins fit into this story?
