  • The Implications of Nudity

Stephanie Pham and Matt Granger join the show to discuss the art of implied nude photography. How do you get started in this type of art? And what are the challenges and barriers to entry? How do you plan a shoot? And how do the photographer (and model) ensure they are working with professionals?

We discuss these topics and many more in this important discussion. We also tackle the importance of professionalism on both the part of the model and the photographer during booking, during the shot, and after the shoot.

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: Ready for pro work? With Jefferson Graham

Apple has revealed the next flagship iPhone — the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Some of the most stand-out flagship features of this new superphone are its new lower-light capable cameras, a new Bionic processor, cinematic mode, increased storage capacity, and more.

But is this new camera, and the mobile industry at large, ready to challenge a territory traditionally held by professional-level DSLRs and mirrorless cameras? Are we on the verge of moving from a "mobile-first" modality, into a mobile-only world?

Intrepid technology reporter Jefferson Graham joins the show to discuss his perspective on this new camera release and the mobile industry as it applies to pro-level video and photography work.

    About Jefferson Graham

Jefferson Graham is the host of the travel photography series "Photowalks with Jefferson Graham," which streams for free on Tubi.

  • Sight, Sound, and Taste in Photography, with Calvin Hu

In this episode, I explore a different perspective of photography with a culinary photographer who's also pursuing a graduate degree in music! What happens when these two artistic disciplines collide?

    About Calvin

    Calvin Hu

Growing up on Golden Curry and California rolls, San Francisco native Calvin Hu first got into photography as a way to document the home-cooked meals his mom would make growing up. After moving to Los Angeles and then to New York to pursue a graduate degree in music, Calvin began exploring different urban areas, capturing delicious moments and sidewalk snapshots on the weekends away from the piano.

For Calvin, “similarly to music, when it comes to photography, consistency is key. And, if it’s something that you love it’ll always find its way back to you in some way, shape, or form.” For a feed that’s good enough to eat, follow @thecalvinhu on Instagram.

    Adobe Rising Stars

Calvin is one of Adobe's 2021 Rising Stars of Photography. The annual Rising Stars program highlights up-and-coming photographers, each of whom will have the opportunity to take over Lightroom's Instagram page.

  • Breaking and Making Rules, with Steve Richard

In this interview, photographer and cinematographer Steve Richard joins the podcast to discuss his approach to creating his fantastical images. He discusses how he plays by the rules of his own "personal dogma", and his meticulous attention to detail and the art form of photography.

    https://www.steverichard.com

    About Steve Richard:

    Steve Richard

Steve Richard has been plying his trade in the mysterious photographic arts for well over a quarter of a century. Steve is both a stills photographer and a cinematographer, thus bringing an unerring sense of style and composition to all of his work. Steve’s visuals capture the imagination, challenge preconceptions, and merge a classical ethos with urban grit and 21st Century techno-savvy.

Born and raised in a small town in Eastern Canada, Steve took his first photograph at the age of 12, over 40 years ago. Much of the early years were spent developing his craft while working in the various commercial facets of the photography trade. During this time he developed a significant love-hate relationship with photography, and actually gave up shooting a number of times.

During these downtimes, he has worked as a full-time musician touring across Canada, a recording studio engineer, a fiber-optic network designer, a teacher at Dalhousie University, a cinematographer, and has developed the necessary skills to produce a fine bowl of Tom Ka Guy soup. His passion for photography developed into a full obsession about 20 years ago when he decided to only shoot the subjects that would interpret his view of the world. For the most part, this meant a combination of beauty mixed with a bit of darkness.

Although fully digital Steve still creates his work as if he was shooting film and does everything “in camera” with little or no post-production. His approach to creating art is more from the perspective of a sculptor than a photographer, spending hours making small changes in light and body line until the final image is perfect. Steve spends most of his time shooting dance, bodies in motion, and teaching the art of light, language and line.

  • NFTs, Non-Binary, and The Flaw of Attraction!

In this continuing series of episodes covering various aspects of the NFT space, I'm joined by artists Alexis Hunley and Annabelle Freedman. They've recently dropped an NFT release series titled "The Flaw of Attraction". The series seeks to shed light on the controversial topic of sexuality, and what it means (and does not mean) to be non-binary.

    About Alexis Hunley

Alexis Hunley is a freelance artist based in Los Angeles. Since she began her photography journey in 2017 she has had the pleasure of producing commercial, editorial, lifestyle, and documentary work for a variety of clients including Adobe, Essence, Airbnb, Apple, and The National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Propelled by her love for the interplay between science and art, Alexis is naturally drawn to work that allows her to explore vulnerability and authenticity. As a queer Black artist navigating the creative industry Alexis has found that her desire to dive deeper and reach for the truest, most authentic forms of expression drives her creativity.

    About Annabel Freedman

Exploring space and time through their inspiration of nature, they interweave playful assessments of humanity through collaboration, with personal anecdotes rooted in more-than-human interconnectedness.

  • Photoshop Different, with Aaron Nace

In this episode, I'm joined by Aaron Nace of PHLEARN! We discuss some strong contenders to Adobe Photoshop!

    About Aaron and Phlearn!

    ©Aaron Nace

Initially, PHLEARN was an enjoyable side-project designed to bring in some income to fund Aaron’s passion projects. As the years went on, those passion projects helped his style and vision coalesce. His formal education was grounded in practicality; industrial design is the art of form and function, often characterized by precision and clarity. In contrast, his unique perspective drove him to inject elements of the strange and imaginative. The resulting images exist somewhere in between high fashion and surreal fantasy.

With access to an instructor with such a distinct sense of style and warm personality, PHLEARN’s YouTube channel began to grow exponentially. PHLEARN inevitably grew out of Aaron’s North Carolina apartment and the company now calls Chicago home, taking up residence in a spacious studio overlooking the city’s iconic skyline.

Now, with over 500 tutorials, PHLEARN has evolved into a massive resource for anyone aspiring to express their creativity whether it be personally or professionally. Aaron has also evolved from that of a pure creative to someone now responsible for the day-to-day growth and development of a thriving business. With nearly 1.5 million YouTube subscribers, the demands of curating new and challenging content for his students require the majority of his focus, though he still manages to find the time for the conceptual work that he loves.

Whether he’s working out a way to pull off some new bizarre image or he’s helping sculpt the direction of a company to ensure the happiness of its customers and employees, Aaron finds a way to make sure that his personal philosophy continues to resonate throughout everything that he does.
