About Clay Cook

Every photograph begins with an idea. The job of a photographer is to not only capture the vision but manipulate it into art, bigger than life and beyond any initial expectations.

Photographer, Clay Cook, has learned the importance of going the extra mile, after a long, arduous run in the music business. As a result, his wisdom, field experience and work ethic has pushed him further into an inspiring career in Editorial and Portrait photography. Over a short period of time, Clay has shaped creative projects with brands such as: A&E, History, Lifetime, Comcast, Uproxx, Livestrong, NFL and Papa John's Pizza. In addition, he has brought to life, worldwide assignments for publications such as National Geographic, Time, Forbes, Popular Mechanics, The Guardian, W Magazine, USA Today and ESPN.

Along with the desire to offer local solutions for every project, Clay can spread the word with the help of a large social media and blogging community. Start with an idea and Clay will lead it to a roaring finish line.

His work is featured frequently on well-known photography blogs including Fstoppers, DIYPhotography, PetaPixel, Lifehacker, ISO1200, Shutterbug and LensVid among others. His primary subject - beautiful people!

His photographs have been published internationally in magazines like Maxim, Cosmopolitan, Get Fit, Shape and Good Light Magazine to name a few. He has been called upon to complete assignments for both the New York Times and The Los Angeles Times and has serviced commercial advertising clients from all over the United States.

Joe has earned a reputation as a lively and popular instructor and lecturer at camera clubs, photography conferences and photography workshops across the United States. He has been a speaker at events like ImagingUSA, WPPI, PhotoPlus, Out of Chicago, Carolina Photo Expo and numerous others.

He has also served as an adjunct professor teaching about Creativity and Photography at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA and Northampton County Community College in Monroe, PA.

Along with his incredible wife and two four-legged kids, Joe is based in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In this interview, I sit down with photographer and TWiP PRO member Michael Coutts. Mike is a long-time friend of TWiP regular Troy Miller, and he graciously agreed to join me for a discussion about his journey from attempted suicide, to healing — and how he used photography as a tool to help him see the world (and himself) in new ways.

As you might imagine, this was a tough interview to do; it’s an obviously sensitive subject, and also an important topic that many people are dealing with on a daily basis. Mike shared some ways he found his way out of the “funk” using photography, and how he’s now dedicated to helping others find ways to do the same.

From a young age Michael Coutts, a photographer based out of Southern California, was fascinated with the camera.  However, it took many years until he would answer his calling. Through career changes and life challenges, he has ended up in a fascinating moment of life with a camera as his voice. Mike finds his home in street photography. He is able to connect us to the people we would most likely not want to meet. Through his unique way of storytelling, he invites you to the doorstep of your own demons. His edgy style brings you in and inspires you to become the person you lost under all the crud of life.
