Economists like to talk about the economy as if we know what is happening now, but frequently indicators are available with a lag and the commentary is much like driving a car while looking in the rearview mirror. This week's indicators were mining production in November, retail sales figures in November, December's inflation rate and the third quarter of last year's household resilience index.
