This Week's Rehash

Two traveling monks reached a town where there was a young woman waiting to step out of her sedan chair. The rains had made deep puddles and she couldn’t step across without spoiling her silken robes. She stood there, looking very cross and impatient. She was scolding her attendants. They had nowhere to place the packages they held for her, so they couldn’t help her across the puddle.

The younger monk noticed the woman, said nothing, and walked by. The older monk quickly picked her up and put her on his back, transported her across the water, and put her down on the other side. She didn’t thank the older monk, she just shoved him out of the way and departed.

As they continued on their way, the young monk was brooding and preoccupied. After several hours, unable to hold his silence, he spoke out. “That woman back there was very selfish and rude, but you picked her up on your back and carried her! Then she didn’t even thank you!

“I set the woman down hours ago,” the older monk replied. “Why are you still carrying her?”  - by Jon J. Muth from the book Zen Shorts.

It turns out, when we have a full stomach, when we are not busy looking for food or surviving the elements, we tend to find other issues and drama to deal with.  Idle hands and minds either tend to create something amazing or commit horrific crimes. That's just how we are I guess.

Think of someone who did you wrong and got away with it. Now imagine bestowing justice on that person. Wasn't that gratifying?

Black history is American history - Morgan Freeman

How does cutting the Police Department's budget solve racism?  Is this how we thank them for protecting us during the riots?  How about taking out the Mayor's protective detail and take him out of his bubble?

Racism or Police Brutality?  One is a matter of perception, how we perceive and relate to each other while the other as a matter or training and policy which is far more practical to solve.

All this, starts at home.

I think it is more important to make headway in our own house,  by the time the system comes into play, the damage is done - Denzel Washington

We are barely coming out of the Covid attack and here they go again.   Did people just go crazy for being cooped up indoors for months?  Or is it simply their nature to riot, vandalize and loot?

I am not an authority in podcasting, but a couple of people asked me how I got into it, so I thought I'd make an episode out of it.  I hope you would find this helpful and I'm looking forward to listening to your podcast.

TV talking heads and politicians keep debating on whether it is a good idea to open up the economy.  Who should make the call, what businesses are to be permitted and so forth.  Keep in mind all these people are getting paid to talk even when they are at home.  None of these people care about our families.  They can careless about the bills that we have to pay.  At the end of it all, we have to decide and do what we got to do to survive.

Seems like Californians have a great tolerance for corruption, abusive taxes, vagrants defecating and shooting up drugs on the streets, criminals just being let loose, but take away their beaches and you got yourself an instant protest!

Ever been in one of those carnival mazes?  Isn't it frustrating to find your way out while in it? Then you look up and you hear your friends trying to coach you on which path to take because they got out before you and they are watching you from a higher point of view.   It’s all just a matter of perspective.

How much responsibility do we defer to the government and how much do we take on to take care of ourselves?  Isn't the whole point of living in a free country is to be responsible for ourselves?
