Those Were The Days

We're wrapping up MASH month with an episode that takes us a bit deeper into drama territory. This show was masterful at balancing the comedy but also saying things that needed to be said. This was quite the episode to wrap up a wonderful month of television on.

Next, we're talking sports! Shows that contain sports that may or may not actually be sport related.

We're continuing M*A*S*H month by watching a later season episode, "Movie Tonight." As tensions are building around the base, Colonel Potter decides its time to have some "jocularity" and shows his favorite movie to the troops. This is one of those episodes that functions as a filler to some degree but never phones it in. It's joke after joke after joke for almost the entire runtime. It also gets the cast to showcase some of their many talents. We had a good time with this "more comedy than drama" episode. What did you think?

Next time, Watch M*A*S*H S3E21 - Big Mac - Available on Archive.org or Disney+ in Canada

Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" has been told and retold countless times. Adapted by everything from the Muppets to weird motion capture CGI. Heck, we even did an adaptation of it once in this block of Those Were The Days when we covered Highway to Heaven! But there are a few retellings that stand tall above the others and today we're covering Mickey's Christmas Carol. A short, but very memorable retelling that introduced many of us to Scrooge McDuck for the first time. Despite the fact that he's been around since the 40's, this 1983 classic pushed him into our hearts and then kept him there by making him the main character of Ducktales. This one holds a special place in all of our hearts and I'm glad we're rounding out another year of television with it.

We'll be back in 2026 with more TV, but for now we're taking a festive break to spend time with our friends and family over the holidays. Keep an eye on our socials for our return and the theme we'll be covering when we do. Thanks for another wonderful year, and we hope you have a very happy holiday season!

At this point, it should come as no surprise to the audience that we here at Those Were The Days HQ adore The Muppets. Each of us comes to the table with a reverence for all these weirdos and you should come to expect that we'll have some Muppet focused episode at least once a year. Well, ladies and gentlemen, this is the day. Amy is taking us on a journey into her childhood with A Muppet Family Christmas. It's one of those Muppet features that knows exactly what its job is and leaves nothing but joy in its wake. We hope you enjoy the episode.

Next week, Travis is taking us on another trip down memory lane with Mickey's Christmas Carol. You can stream this one on Disney+

We're continuing holiday season here on Those Were The Days by heading into Thanksgiving! Every show has a halloween episode, and every show has a Christmas episode, but not every show spends a ton of time on the great gluttonous holiday that is Thanksgiving. Fortunately for us, we've had WKRP's turkey drop and now we're having the drunken football friends-giving that is The Bob Newhart Show. Rated as the top best episode of this show by IMDB, we find Bob Newhart without his wife, Emily, and replaced by three of his closets friends and a jug of cider and vodka ... or vodka and cider. Sit down, order some moo goo gai pan, and let's enjoy this show!

Next week, it's time for A Muppet Family Christmas! We have two links for you as the only place to find this is YouTube

This week, Travis brings up us a show that most of us had no idea existed, or at least weren't aware of how big of a thing it was. Kolchak: The Night Stalker brings us tales of the paranormal when reporter Carl Kolchak investigates the weird stuff going on in the world hoping to shed light on the mysteries around the city. This show had a lot going on and we had a good time going over it. We hope you do too!

Join us next week as we start the Holiday Season with Highway to Heaven - S1E13 - Another Song for Christmas. Streaming on Amazon Prime

Good evening. Tonight, we're heading into one of the spookiest of spooky season shows with Alfred Hitchcock Presents! This show was a staple of television for years, not unlike it's cousin The Twilight Zone. There's something charming about really old black & white TV and our hosts are happy to discuss this classic episode tonight.

Next week! It's time to watch Kolchak: The Night Stalker - S1E2 - The Zombie. Streaming on Peacock
