Sean says:

B-Movie meltdown! I am still experiencing the love tug between "do I hate this?" or "is this gorgeous ART?" I loved watching two versions of the same basic film. The story was important enough to some of those involved in the first film version that they very kindly revised it for a more modern audience and with a bigger budget. For me, it kinda boils down to how the filmmaker shows their hand. In one version, the story is told for love of story. In the other version the story is told to make money. Not that there's anything WRONG with that. The money-er version seriously made my head explode with it's 9th level crazy, but the story first version is the one I could cuddle up with on a late night post-psychedelic evening.

Montetré says:

I didn't want to watch either of these, but I did anyway.  I did it for Sean.  That's what friends do.  They torture one another.  Regardless, this episode was a blast to edit.  Considering that we're talking about while watching both Castle Freaks simultaneously, I'd say we covered a lot of ground.  RIP Stuart Gordon and long live Full Moon Features.

Sean says:  Montetré and I discuss the details of nearly everything including some bits of True Lies. Arnold Schwarzenegger as a post modern American man ain't quite woke but ain't your daddy's spy hero either.

Montetré says:  Well I think we stay mostly on topic when talking about this impossible to find movie.  And why is it hard to find?  Is it the racism?  Is racism the right word for it?  Regardless, the actors are having a ball and James Cameron knows how to make this spectacle work (even though the original La Totale proved that less is more than a bit more, oh and also you don’t have to employ the trope of stereotypical villains; wasn’t it considered a trope by then?).  I don’t know, man.  It’s lazy.  Whatever.  Let’s see this sucker as a musical on Broadway, with such hits such as, “I’m Forcing My Wife to Seduce Me” and “She Took the Ice Cube Trays Out of the Freezer” and what is sure to be everyone’s favorite “Salesman Spy Meet Spy Salesman” with the backing vocals of The Little Dick Choir.

About our "inaugural" episode...

Montetré and I begin our new podcast series "3 Claps" with a look at James Whale's BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. Our first episode, an audio only show in which we drink beer and chat about mostly movie stuff, has us pretty much in agreement that BOF is a wonderful movie that holds up even after almost 100 years. Sliding into a groove by the mid-point of the episode, this pilot offers a glimpse into the process of finding our rhythms in this format. While we have frequently knocked back beers and talked smack about movies, thankfully those conversations have never been recorded and I can deny any allegations. Now that they are being recorded I have to be careful. I'm not, but I should be.

Montetré says:

BOF was a great first choice for Sean and I to delve and pick apart. We're quite the pair of film nerds. Not only did I learn quite a bit about the film, but also this entirely different sort of process that is making a video podcast. We've got some room to grow. Which is good, right? Anyway, this podcast isn't about the making of a podcast. It's about movies! Sean is great talk movies with. Having worked together in the muck and mire of movie sets, it's quite nice to sit back and laugh.
