The 3 is back in 3GT! Yes, all the guys are back together again and ready to rumble.

Their topic for this episode is that of idleness. They begin by considering how certain occupations that require self-motivation, from pastors to salesmen, are inherently prone to tempt people to idleness. From there, the guy discuss how idleness is a failure to progress toward future kingdom goals. They then consider how busyness is not the antidote to laziness. Many Scriptural references warning about idleness are given. They then converse about the common areas in modern life that encourage idleness, such as social media, retirement, and video games (where we learn about Zelda!). The 3GTers conclude with a number of short encouragements and admonitions on overcoming idleness in the Christian life.

While Kyle and Barry continue to wait for the return of their parishioner, they decide to discuss the safeguards of Presbyterianism. What guardrails does the Presbyterian faith offer?

They first discuss what Presbyterian means, and how it differs from other forms of church governance. Though it can be abused as any system can be, the guys highlight how it Biblically should function. Topics such as care for souls, aiding in conflict, the plurality of elders, the parity of elders, honoring Christ as the head of the church, assisting other congregations in need, joint ministry ventures, having a common confession, and the rights of minority voices are raised. A Presbyterian church should provide the guardrails needed to help keep people on the straight and narrow…unless it’s tossed them aside!

The boy from Winchester is back from his world travels! But now the boy from Indiana has turned up MIA! So the guys have to soldier on as 3GT minus one.

On this episode Kyle and Barry discuss the need for patience in pastoral ministry. They first distinguish between passive and active patience. Regarding the former, they explain why ministers often have to suffer as part of their calling and the aids the Lord gives to them to bear up under the strains of ministry. Then they turn to the latter form of patience, and converse on how patience should permeate ministry as pastors shepherd the Lord’s people who, like themselves, can often be slow going and slow growing.

So in this fast paced world that demands the instantaneous, how about slowing down a bit and join the 3GTers as they discuss this topic important to life in the church?

While Kyle is still out on the high seas (Will he ever come back?), Scott and Barry continue to bring guests on to fill the void. On this episode, they invite three students to discuss their experience in being trained in preaching at RPTS.

After introducing Ian, Jay, and Rom – students from different countries, backgrounds, and experience (and ages we learn!) – Scott grills them about their training at RPTS. He asks them to share the challenges of being a preaching student, and we hear how chapel preaching can be intimidating and yet also strengthening. He inquires about how homiletics is taught at RPTS, and hears about “Coach” York’s approach. When Scott asks about their experiences and lessons as they develop as preachers, topics such as the importance of prayer, a focus on heralding truth, and how theology should flow out through preaching and lead to worship.
