Three Questions, Three Drinks with Chris Mikolay episodes

  • Ep. 48 - Ice Shanties, Prostitution and Other Data Points to Consider: Hudson’s Former Mayor Speaks
Chris cracks a cold Molson Ice and sits down with embattled former Mayor of Hudson, Ohio, Craig Shubert, to understand how ice shanties lead to prostitution, whether Mayor Shubert believes writing prompts used in a Hudson High School college credit class were truly child pornography, and – after making national headlines 3 times over the past year – who’s responsible for the current state of Hudson’s reputation. This is a fascinating look inside the mind of the Mayor and, in his words, the “bloodsport” of local politics.

    Drinks in this Episode:

A Bottle of Generic Water >> Go to the grocery store. Procure a bottle of generic water.

24 oz can of Molson Ice >> Find a liquor store that still sells Molson Ice. Serve to guests of your ice shanty in a red Solo cup or straight out of the can.

With his job at the nexus of sports, media and business, Jason thoughtfully opines on the evolving nature of our national sports obsession, the fine line between being tough on an athlete and giving grace for mental health struggles, and which athlete from the past would have been the best Twitter follow. Jason is one of our nation’s best sportswriters for a reason, and in this episode of 3Q3D he proves he is as fun to talk to as his columns are entertaining to read.

  • Ep. 40 - The Road Less Traveled
LIVING A MOST UNUSUAL LIFE. When confronted with two possible paths, how often do we really choose the one less trodden? While most of us follow the crowd when it comes to careers, where we live and even where we vacation, Nate Adams has consistently taken the road less traveled. From Madagascar to Medellin and seemingly everywhere in between, Nate has explored and lived in some of the most remote regions of the planet. Over drinks both exotic and hyper local, Nate examines the source of his wanderlust, why we should get out of our comfort zones more often, and what once compelled him to wire $20,000 to a taxi driver he had just met in Trinidad and Tobago. Above all, Nate Adams shares whether the road less traveled has, in fact, made all the difference.

Nate’s book, “The Tragedy of Madagascar: An Island Nation Confronts the 21st Century”, will be released in the second half of 2022.

  • Ep. 39 - Chase the Gout Away
HEALTH & WELLNESS! In a return to the classic 3 Questions, 3 Drinks format, the OG 3Q3D squad rates their physical, mental and spiritual health while vowing to make some radical life changes*. Chris blends up a delicious vodka-infused fruit smoothie and wonders why nobody wants to hear about CrossFit, Amanda determines real self-care means making a magnificent maple whiskey sour and taking a brisk walk, and while lamenting his current less-than-ideal level of physical fitness, Matt declares it’s not his fault and proceeds to pour the worst drink in 3Q3D history.

*Primarily through the use of a standing desk.

    Drinks in this episode:

    >> “Chase the Gout Away” Vodka Fruit Smoothie. Place one frozen banana, 2 cups of frozen strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, mango, and pineapple into a blender, and add enough orange juice and cranberry grape juice to blend the concoction to a smooth consistency; then add 3 shots of Tito’s vodka and blend until the smoothie is pourable into a cup and serve with a straw.

    >> Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 10 year old, Laphroaig Distillery, Isle of Islay, Scotland. Pour into a glass and serve neat to a friend you hate. Alternatively, pour the entire bottle straight down the sink. It’s terrible.

    >> Maple Whiskey Sour. 1 ½ oz bourbon, 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice, 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, citrus peel for garnish. Combine bourbon, lemon juice and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until chilled and strain into a chilled glass and garnish with lemon peel.
