  • The Devil Made Me Do It - Luke 19-24, week 7

Be honest, when you've sinned in your life at some point you used the excuse "The Devil Made Me Do It" or at least thought about using it. At the end of the day we are the one's responsible for our own decisions, for our own sins. But perhaps Judas, the man who betrayed Jesus, maybe he can claim "The Devil Made Me Do It" and have it be true.

This week's discussion features Judah Thomas, Mike McHugh, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V.

  • The Mount of Olives - Luke 19-24, week 6

How long does it take to form a habit? Jesus had a habit of alone time with His Heavenly Father. As a church we like to promote the 5-5-5 challenge, 5 minutes of reading scripture, 5 minutes of prayer, and 5 minutes of silence listening for the voice of God. But for some 1-1-1 might be the place to start. Just getting into the habit of everyday at a certain time, turning to the Bible. Turning to Scripture. Turning to His Word. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"

This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, Mike McHugh, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, Johnny V and via phone, from Ireland, David LaManna.

  • A Widow's Heart - Luke 19-24, week 5

Jesus sat and watched the tithe box, and saw a widow give everything she had to the kingdom. The most generous isn't always the most obvious. Sometimes those who appear to have the least, give the most.

  • Whip It! - Luke 19-24, week 4

Jesus was a craftsman and he made all kinds of things. He worked with stone, he probably knew about wood working, and oh he also made a whip. He then used said whip to tell the money changers what He thought of them.

  • Getting a New Ride - Luke 19-24, week 3

When you hear rumor of a great revolutionary King is coming, how do you expect him to arrive? Possibly in a parade of cars, surrounded by guards, maybe even military. When Jesus went into Jerusalem, he rode in on a donkey. A lonely animal, and certainly not the steed he was expected on. He didn’t match their expectations. How often do we let our unrealistic expectations cloud our ability to see who people truly are.

  • Are You Hoarding Your Silver? - Luke 19-24, week 2

You don’t have to have money to give to the kingdom of Heaven. Your God given talents and skills might be just what is needed. Whether it’s your talents on the guitar or your skills with a hammer, money isn’t the only gift you have to offer. Sometimes you don't even know you have the talent until you try.

  • A Day in the Life of a Tax Collector - Luke 19-24. week 1

Besides being a wee little man, what else is known about Zacchaeus the tax collector who climbed a tree to see Jesus. He literally went out on a limb. Not being a popular figure in town, Zacchaeus ran the chance of ridicule from his fellow citizens. Makes you wonder, do we have that same nerve. To literally go out on a limb to see the Messiah.

  • Grateful and Thankful - Luke 13-18, week 10 (final)

When Jesus healed, how many said thank you? When people give, how many are giving out of obligation and how many are giving out of gratitude and love? Jesus sees our heart more than He sees our deeds.

  • A Gift Unto Itself - Luke 13-18, week 9

What does it mean to never cease praying? God is always with us. Every second, every day. He sees our good deeds, and our selfish ways. If you treat Him as a friend, someone you can talk to, a confident, what would happen?

About Thriving in The Word

From the publisher's feed

At Thriving in The Word we believe in a slower study of scripture. Sure you can cook a steak in the microwave, but would you want to eat it. It’s much better slow cooked, and that’s how we take our Bible study. We study the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, and at times even word by word.
