Celaena discovers a secret passageway, is visited by a ghost and given an important task along with an amulet for protection, and then is chased back to her rooms by snarling and growling. The Crown Prince and the Captain of the Guard visit her rooms after the Samhuinn feast. Chaol kicks Dorian out and then wakes Celaena to gift her a ring.

Things are getting interesting in Chapter 14 when one of the champions is found murdered the day before the first test. Celaena begins training every day at dawn and officially meets Nox Owen while giving him some pointers on knife throwing. We also learn how Chaol became Captain of the Guard and hear a heartbreaking story about Celaena's time as an assassin.
