Who wants to hear another Black girl rant about how she isn’t being loved properly or seen with dignity and respect? I guess the better question is: how many more Black women have yet to tell their truth—their story? I’m sure there are many. But one woman we can’t say that about is the poet, the writer, the entertainer herself—Saint Sin—who expresses the sentiments of a Black woman’s journey through love and pain so significantly.

She often emphasizes the magnitude of a woman’s presence and how she should be tended to with care and intention. Honestly, this “women deserve all the love” campaign only makes sense, considering that she refers to herself as a garden… a creation that creates—as most of us are. Insinuating that women often reciprocate what’s planted into the soil of their lives. There’s no doubt in my mind that this is why she advocates for the melanated female group the way that she does. And I can’t wait for you all to hear the poem she’s created to tell the story.

"I barely got time for the things I want. I barely got time for the things I need. I only got time for the things that I’m ‘sposed to."

Those were the words that struck my heart when I first heard the underrated classic “Here We Go Again” by Carolina’s superstar, JB Samson. If you have a heart, I’m sure those lyrics will strike you too—because most of us live in a cycle of life we don’t enjoy or can’t seem to get a grip on. But all hope is not lost. What if the beauty is in the redundancy? In the fact that you know what’s going to happen next—and that very knowing reassures you to take the next step. Where you can make a clear decision and say, might as well do something worthwhile, like today’s feature. And that something worthwhile just might be the breakthrough you need.

I had just begun a crazy momentum before I left for Dreamville in my own little world. I went to the festival in hopes that I would continue it by volunteering or working at an event that already had mass momentum, but honestly the momentum I was creating at home was just as special. I was already attracting my dreams. Sure I may have to contribute from time to time, but I no longer have to force it.

I wasn't supposed to be there. It was the last performance of the two-day Dreamville Festival, and I stood off in a corner amongst 52,000 other attendees with tears in my eyes watching two of my favorite artists: Erykah Badu and J. Cole.

Sure, you could say these were tears of gratitude, but as my eyes began to flood, the only thing I could say to myself was, “This can’t be my life.” Yes, I was able to catch the once-in-a-lifetime moment of them performing “Too Deep for the Intro,” but what it took for me to get inside those walls was a persistence I’m not even sure was supposed to be activated.

So how did you actually get in, Mikeya? That’s a damn good question. In this week's episode, you’ll find out exactly how it happened—and a few revelations that brought me a lot of peace. One of them being that I no longer have to chase my dreams.

Recently, I decided to stop chasing my dreams. If you know me, then you know I’ve been chasing them for a very long time—but honestly, chasing just doesn’t feel right to me anymore. According to Google, the definition of chase is “to pursue in order to catch up or catch up with.” So now, as I approach 31, I’m asking myself: when do you stop running and realize your dreams are already happening—but through the way of personal development. ?
