Motherhood is a varied yet permanent stage of life. No mother’s experience is identical to another, but somewhere along the way motherhood touches all humans.
This episode highlights the diversity of experiences motherhood offers with editors of The Long Devotion: Poets Writing Motherhood. This anthology is a collection of poems, essays, and writing prompts that represent and describe a wide range of experiences. Edited by Emily Pérez and Nancy Reddy, The Long Devotion celebrates the multifaceted types and lifestyles of motherhood ranging from intersections of parenting and race; single parenting; adoptive, foster, and step-parenting; life with chronic illness, mental illness, and disability; and the choice to remain childless.
Emily and Nancy share a poem from the book called “Feed” which speaks to the various forms of transitions women experience through motherhood. Our conversation touches on topics such a Matrescence, navigating work and motherhood, as well as learning how to adjust to motherhood and finding a creative spark again.

It’s sometimes hard to know how much we can actually handle when we have so much thrown at us all at once. As a modern day Mother — the increased busyness, digital consumption, high expectations along with the pain, suffering and loss all around us, is a lot to navigate through. Today, we are talking about one of the most common challenges for parents: How do you continue to care for yourself during the busy seasons in life? One thing is for sure, it is not easy! During life's changes and every new stage we go through as mothers, it's hard to find a new rhythm and balance. Casey is sharing her "5 Daily Mindset Shifts" that every busy Mom needs to incorporate in their lives.
Show Notes:
- Casey shares what made her re-evaluate her self-care routine and calm her nervous system.

In this solo episode, we are talking about the gift of motherhood — how we can find ways to accept where we are at right now in this season of motherhood. In this last episode of Season Two, I am reflecting on what common themes from the past two seasons in particular how we pressure ourselves and set such high expectations for ourselves in all aspects in our lives which then lead to burnout and overwhelm. The modern day as mothers, especially in the Western culture weighs heavily on the hustle culture. What are ways we can find more self-acceptance? What Motherhood is teaching us in each chapter. Being ok with the ebbs and flow of motherhood and the fact that not everything is always going to be perfect is part of the blessings we experience in motherhood -- one of our many gifts in motherhood.
