In this seventy-second (72nd) edition of the TigerTalk podcast presented by Northeast Mississippi Community College, host Will Kollmeyer welcomes Northeast nursing students Blayne Carr and Emmalee Hite to the podcast along with nursing instructors Debbie Hazel-Lambert and Beth Dawson. In the first half of the podcast, nursing students Blayne Carr and Emmalee Hite join Kollmeyer to talk about their capstone projects for their first year of nursing school where each group of prospective nurses had to make an informative commercial on a given topic and with National Mental Health Month falling during May...one of those topics was suicide. Carr's group chose to focus on gate-way drugs and how teen-agers get their hands on such drugs and what it can lead to while Hite's group took on the idea of suicide and how mental illness and other factors play a role into suicide. In the second half of the podcast, instructors Hazel-Lambert and Dawson join the show to talk about National Mental Health Month and also how the nursing program at Northeast stays up-to-date with its curriculum and the different ways that they incorporate technology in the classroom. Kollmeyer's wrap up of the events for the 2019 Spring Semester including graduations and an all-star football game is sandwiched between the two main interviews and contains one of the most comprehensive lists of events and happenings on the Northeast campus for the upcoming week, so if you have an event or happening on campus and want to be part of the Tiger Talk podcast, reach out to us. In this seventy-first (71st) edition of the TigerTalk podcast presented by Northeast Mississippi Community College, host Will Kollmeyer welcomes Northeast senior research associate Michael Byrd, Northeast student Roxanna Tucker and college navigator Andrea Hardin to the podcast. Byrd opens up about the office of institutional research and all the continuous planning that goes on behind the scenes that the office does to make the college successful. It's not just collecting data in the office of institutional research. It's about how people interpret that data and how said data can be used to make Northeast an even better community college -- from student life to class surveys to graduation surveys, all that data is compiled to help Northeast improve. In a rare double interview, Kollmeyer welcomes Northeast student Roxanna Tucker and college navigator Andrea Hardin to the podcast in the second half of the show. Tucker talks about what all she went through in life before finding salvation and Northeast and it is through salvation that she has been able to turn her life around and become a student at Northeast. Tucker obtained her GED from Northeast, is a Second Chance student and has just completed her first semester as a college student and plans to major in journalism and get her four-year degree. Hardin has been Tucker's navigator and is on hand to talk about the process that aided Tucker into becoming successful. In addition to talking about how to enroll in the Northeast GED programs, Mi-BEST or Smart Start programs, Hardin points out that most of the programs offered are offered at free or little cost to the student. In this seventieth (70th) edition of the TigerTalk podcast presented by Northeast Mississippi Community College, host Will Kollmeyer welcomes Northeast student Dora Stricklin to the podcast to tell her story about overcoming tragedy and life events to graduate with not just one, two...but three degrees from Northeast when she walks at graduation in May. Stricklin dropped out of school in the seventh grade and decided to make a change for the better but not before life threw her a few more curveballs along the way -- including the death of her father on her first day of class at Northeast. Nothing slowed down Stricklin and through determination and encouragement from her husband and the staff in the NEMCC Adult Basic Education department along with many Northeast faculty and staff members, Stricklin will walk across the stage in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum in May as a college graduate. In the second half of the podcast, Northeast offensive coordinator Doug Saylor stops in to give the low down on the Northeast Tiger football golf tournament coming up in May at Hillandale Country Club in Corinth. The golf tournament, which is one of the football team's biggest fund-raisers, is seeing a few changes this year from the members of the Tiger family and plans to be a splendid day out on the links of one of the top golf courses in the college's five-county district. Set for May 3, there are still spots left in the tournament and this gives the football team a way to raise funds while recognizing those who give to the program as well.
