Part two of the 2019 college football preview continues with
the focus on the USC Trojans. If you missed part one, we discussed the Notre Dame
Fighting Irish. When it comes to the Trojans we try to start by talking about offseason
coaching changes, but things devolve quickly into the four headed quarterback
battle currently taking place at USC. Quarterback talk moves into praising the
Trojans fabulous wide receivers. When it comes to defense USC has a lot of good
players on the defensive line and playing linebacker, but none of that matters because
the secondary has not looked great over the summer and fall practices. We also
talk about the air raid in general, the convoluted path some freshman took to
get on the USC football team and of course griping about head coach Clay
Helton.

season. A preview of the rest of the offense follows. When things turn to
defense key players are highlighted, but most importantly Greg gets an opportunity
to fawn over Notre Dame’s new favorite son Kyle Hamilton. Part two of the

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish season ended in the Cotton
Bowl with a loss to the Clemson Tigers. Greg is not taking the loss too hard,
and staying positive on what was a encouraging season. Everything that could go
wrong did for the Irish in Texas, and the Tigers took full advantage. It was
another tough loss for the Irish in a big game, but there is always next year.
As for the USC Trojans, it’s still a confusing offseason with new offensive coordinator
Kliff Kingsbury interviewing for head coaching jobs.

game against Clemson. After the long layoff the Irish are ready to go against

The end of the regular season is unfortunately here, and although neither the Notre Dame Fighting Irish or the USC Trojans played this week there was a lot of news to go around. First Notre Dame ended the regular season ranked 3rd and will play 2nd ranked Clemson in the Cotton Bowl. All of the conference championship games went as expected and Notre Dame held onto their ranking. USC did not qualify for a bowl and has no games left to play, but there were some major coaching shake ups, and rumors of flirting with the available offensive master mind Kliff Kingsbury

Rivalry week has come and gone. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish continued their winning ways by beating the USC Trojans this past weekend. The game between Notre Dame and USC was close all night, but the undefeated Fighting Irish were able to hold on against the rival Trojans in the end. Notre Dame looked sloppy all night long, but were able to take advantage of USC’s usual second half woes. The Fighting Irish are now college football playoff bound, while the Trojans ended the season ineligible to play in a bowl game. Also, despite the calamitous season USC will bring back head coach Clay Helton next season to the dismay of many Trojan Fans.

The 90th edition of the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football kicks off this Saturday when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to Los Angeles and faceoff against the USC Trojans. Greg is riding high rooting for the undefeated Fighting Irish, while Michael is ready for next season just like the injury plagued Trojans. This will probably be the last game of the season for USC, and hopefully the end of the Clay Helton era. For Notre Dame this is a stepping stone before a likely college football playoff berth.

After missing an episode due to the Southern California wildfires we are back. Notre Dame is still rolling, while USC is still reeling. The Fighting Irish continue their winning ways by beating up on number 12 Syracuse. The Orange didn’t stand a chance against Notre Dame, and scored their only points as time was running out. It was another stellar performance for the Fighting Irish defense, and the offense made plays when it mattered. The Trojans on the other hand, lost to cross town rival UCLA. USC looked bad in almost all facets of the game. This poor performance is another blemish on coach Clay Helton’s already spotty resume. This loss also means with a loss to Notre Dame this coming weekend the Trojans would not be bowl eligible. This year’s rivalry week has a lot riding on it for both teams.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish kept on rolling while the USC Trojans tasted an unsatisfying victory. Notre Dame traveled to Northwestern and handled their business. The game may not have been a blow out, but the Fighting Irish did what they needed to do in order get the victory. As always, Ian Book looked great in the second half of the game and multiple Notre Dame players chipped in to seal the victory. With three games left in the regular season Notre Dame has the playoffs in their sights. As for the USC Trojans, in Clay Helton’s first official game as playcaller things went fine for the Trojans. The ground game punished Oregon State and the defense held out long enough to get the win. The Trojans looked great at times and sloppy at others. Everyone is curious what iteration of the Trojans will show up for the remainder of the season.
