The college football season is actually here. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the Duke Blue Devils this Saturday. The USC Trojans are still sitting at home with the rest of the Pac-12. To help everyone get ready for the season we break down Notre Dame’s depth chart. There are many familiar faces that are primed and ready for a great season like QB Ian Book, but the lack of explosiveness and big play ability the Irish have sitting on their bench is a concern.  The Notre Dame defense is also full of returning players ready to compete. We clear out the backend of this podcast to talk about the backend of the Fighting Irish defense and safeties Shaun Crawford and Kyle Hamilton. We also leave extra time to just let Greg talk about Kyle. We are very excited for the season, stay safe and enjoy.

It’s a sad day for the podcast. There will be no USC Trojans football this year because the PAC-12 has canceled their fall season. Tentatively things are still a go for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their ACC schedule. The sad news has everyone’s heads spinning. We don’t know what to expect for this college football season or if their will even be one. We start things off by trying to wrap our heads around the PAC-12’s decision and what other conferences might be thinking. After some soul searching, we come to terms with the fact there probably won’t be a college football season. Then we wrap things up with what this means for the podcast. In addition to breaking down the draft fates of Michael Pittman Jr., Chase Claypool, Austin Jackson, Cole Kmet and every other player drafted, we relish in how nice it was to have some form of sport back in our lives. We continue our journey into the past revisiting old Notre Dame Fighting Irish and USC Trojans’ games. On this episode we focus solely on the Fighting Irish. Greg is joined by his good friend Tim, while Michael is off celebrating the birth of his son. They take a look back at the highlight of the Ty Willingham era, a 34-24 defeat of #11 ranked Florida State in Tallahassee.

They lament the futility of both the Fighting Irish and Seminoles’ offenses, the amazing Notre Dame defense, and the never ending cycle of the Irish being called “back”. They also discuss the Willingham era, if he was actually good at anything, and what he’d do if he wasn’t head coach.

We are back with another past rivalry game. Thanks to all the fans who voted in the twitter poll, we are rewatching the 1999 USC Trojans vs the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Besides all the usual Notre Dame USC antics the game is special to us because a few of the stars in this game were our contemporaries and local high school legends. This game features a 3 win Trojan team facing off against a 3 win Fighting Irish squad. Both teams have talented players, but also have the talent of finding new and interesting ways to lose football games. Both USC and Notre Dame were coached by notorious figures in Paul Hackett and Bob Davie. Some notable stars who suited up for this game were Jarious Jackson, R. Jay Soward, Jabari Holloway, Chad Morton, Grant Irons, and Mike Van Raaphorst. We also find out if Greg knows, Joey Getherall, Marcus Steele and Sulton Abdul-Malik. The game itself was actually very entertaining. The Trojans started off strong, but the Irish hung around and we were treated to an exciting 25-24 finish.

Sports are still on hold in 2020, so we hop back into the time machine and breakdown the 1989 rivalry game where the #9 ranked USC Trojans go to South Bend to face the #1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This was a back and forth battle between two very good teams. After a pregame brawl, the Trojans jumped out to an early lead, but Notre Dame fought back and eventually won in a very exciting 4th quarter. This game featured legends like Rocket Ismail, Junior Seau and Coach Lou Holtz. In addition to those all time greats there were numerous other stars like Tony Rice, Todd Marinovich, Todd Lyght, John Jackson, Chris Zorich and Mark Carrier. We highlight all the big plays, list some underrated moments, talk about players forgotten in time who we loved and hated, try to describe football in 1989, and hand out a game MVP award. Enjoy. It’s our first podcast of 2020, and we need to catch everyone up on what happened with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the USC Trojans during our hiatus. We start with Notre Dame and their new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Some Fighting Irish faithful feel Rees is too young and doesn’t have enough experience, but he does have the element of surprise with a roster full of returning players. National signing day was uneventful for Notre Dame, however one recruit was lost due to some unexpected circumstances. When it comes to USC and recruiting the fan base is still full of anger over the Trojans poor showing in the recruiting rankings. To add insult to injury national media are constantly highlighting how poor this recruiting class is relative to USC’s usual results. The Trojans also hired to new coaches, defensive coordinator Todd Orlando and special teams coach Sean Snyder.
