This week I talk with my buddy and former podcast guest Spencer. We talk about his experience of being pushed onto anti-depressants and sedatives by the military while still active duty between deployments to Afghanistan and how the VA fails to take care of America's veterans, a situation I've unfortunately seen firsthand as well as a civilian paramedic. We discuss other ways the government and media have gaslit citizens throughout the last few decades and especially last few years and I tell him why I'm hopeful for the future despite how bleak things look now.

Last week we talked about controversy surrounding Hogwarts Legacy, and we talked about whether art or other content can be enjoyed without endorsing everything the artist or creator has said or done. We focused more on the broader conversation and didn't get into the weeds of what Rowling said that started this newest example of weaponized sensitivity. Today I dive into her story and what I believe her intentions are based on her own words and interviews, and consider the perspective of this woman's journey who has overcome struggles that only a woman can.

Can art be enjoyed without endorsing everything the artist has said or done, or by supporting a creation are we also supporting the creator? My friend Jared and I take one of today's most hostile controversies head on and discuss why it's a shame that so many people may be missing out on a fantastic game due to their problems with things J.K. Rowling has said.

My guest this episode is my dear friend and colleague Evelyn Arnold, a firefighter/paramedic and licensed mental health counselor that I had the pleasure of working with several years ago. We talk about her work with peer support programs, the unique challenges of maintaining good mental health as a first responder and my own journey this year with UCF Restores, a PTSD treatment program geared for veterans and first responders.

Is tipping in the service industry a good thing? Is the DC film franchise trying to anger their fans? Is Topher Grace the least intimidating man on earth?

I have a lot of talented friends, and one of them is my buddy Scott, AKA Scott Toddy, who has been creating music under that name and as BEACHDRUNK that is worth listening to. If you liked my intro and outtro music you'll definitely like his since, well, it is his. This was a fun and more lighthearted conversation than the last few have been.
Thank for listening!

Avi and I started our EMS careers at the same time a decade ago. We've seen and experienced lots of change in our agencies and the profession as a whole during that time. Our conversation identifies many of the problems facing EMS providers and firefighters today, addresses why so many are leaving the profession altogether and how those still serving can help themselves so they can better help others who need them.
I apologize for the occasional fluctuation in volume of this episode, I did my best to equalize everything but there's only so much my limited knowledge and open source software can do. I'll get better, thanks for bearing with me!

I brought two women on to discuss their differing viewpoints on abortion and to see if we could find common ground as this important topic is headed to state ballot boxes soon due to the overturning of Roe v Wade.
As more rights are returned to the states local elections are more important than ever. Constructive conversations about emotionally charged topics are becoming more and more rare, so this is our attempt to bridge divides in this ongoing culture war.
