Geraldine Callanan was a year married with a three month old son and starting off an exciting family life when she discovered a lump in her breast in November 2017.

She and Deputy Michael Lowry joined Fran in studio to discuss her story in advance of a large fundraiser this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Paul Lafford says that a routine chat with his GP four years ago led him to make the biggest and ultimately hardest decision of his life - to give up drink.

He says his own experience proves that the stereotypical image of a person sitting on a kerb with a brown bag and alcohol isn't the reality of alcoholism - it can affect anyone.

The Junior Certificate results are being released this afternoon.

The release was pushed back as a result of delays in processing Leaving Cert scripts, and concerns are now being raised that giving the results on a Friday – as opposed to the usual Wednesday date – will encourage 4th year students to head out drinking over the weekend.

Before those concerns were raised, a multi-agency task force based in Tipperary was already working hard to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol and try to educate both students and parents in advance of the results.

Students in Tipperary are among the 65,000 who will recieve their Junior Cert results today.

It's several weeks later than they would normally have been released and is also breaking tradition by coming out on a Friday, as opposed to Wednesday as usual.

You heard from the HSE on Wednesday's show as they're encouraging students and parents to be aware of the dangers of the effects of alcohol ahead of tonight's celebrations.

The Be Safe Be Sober initiative is a multi-agency awareness campaign in Tipperary which includes the HSE, CYPSC, the National Ambulance Service and An Garda Siochana.

The newly developed Cashel Playground was opened a number of weeks ago.

The massive two-year project saw the town come together to raise funds for the nearly three-hundred thousand euro playground which shadows the Rock of Cashel in its design and features state of the art accessible and sensory aspects.

Tipp FM's Ben Sweeney visited the site yesterday to speak to some of the kids who were using it and the committee behind it.
