We talk about how finding work that is meaningful and has purpose in your life is essential to happiness. I stress the fact that this doesn't mean it must be your full time job as sometimes family situations and needs aren't able to support that. However, doing work that has meaning and purpose can be done part time or even as a volunteer. As long as it involves some aspect of using your gifts and talents to serve others, it will fulfill your purpose and therefore create more happiness. In fact the more it involves serving others, the more happiness you will create.
