What do French MPs drink? Well, as of this month, September 2018, the 577 deputies of the National Assembly drink beer that’s made in France.

A Breton beer in the National Assembly
Sant-Erwann beer, which has just received an international award, is produced in the small town of Trégunc (Finistère département).
In the past, the [National Assembly] bar had the same old beer brands on tap – 1664, Jenlain or Grimbergen. Now, in the National Assembly, one can enjoy a bottle of Breton beer, and from an abbey, moreover. Sant-Erwann, which was first brewed in Tréguier (Côtes-d’Armor), is now produced entirely by the Breton Brewery (Britt, Dremmwel), at the other end of the region, 90 miles further South, in the small town of Trégunc, next to Concarneau (Finistère département).
As it’s now served in the Parliament, the brand has the advantage of an incredible amount of exposure, and this, thanks to two MPs who had a bright idea: Ugo Bernalicis (France Insoumise – North region) and Florian Bachelier (LREM Ille-et-Vilaine département).
“A real opportunity”, said Marc-Olivier Bernard, the CEO of the company of about fifty employees, to the newspaper “Ouest-France”. “With younger MPS in the parliament, the deputies are more and more fans of beers and they’ve loosened their hold on wine and champagne”.
The products of the Brasserie de Bretagne also won, on August 15, no less than three awards, including a world premiere at the international beer competition, the World Beer Award. “It’s a matter of pride, but also a real recognition of the work of our brewers,” added the manager.
Sant-Erwann is not the only one to have integrated the counter of the National Assembly: Mill of Asq beer, made in Northern France, is also offered at the MPs bar.
