As teenagers, Svein Berge & Torbjørn Brundtland — the gearheads behind Röyksopp — would spend hours pondering the infinite and the impossible. Well, that doesn’t seem to have stopped. Enlisting the help of electro icon Alison Goldfrapp, the conversation continues on the boppy track “Impossible.”

Mexican-American musician and songwriter Joel Jerome is based in Los Angeles and lends his talent to hometown artists like Cherry Glazerr and La Sera, but his own work is inspired by the likes of the Beach Boys, Fleet Foxes, and the music his parents introduced him to in his youth, like Juan Gabriel and Roberto Carlos. Quiet and compelling, you can feel the folk on “Nobody Like You.”

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and ten-time Grammy winning artist Bonnie Raitt releases her latest album “Just Like That…” 50 years after her debut recording. We can say she’s legendary, a master, that she has vitality, but the truth is that Bonnie Raitt remains a kick-ass guitarist and singer, as you can attest to on “Made Up Mind.”

Producer and drummer Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett) and LA beatmaker Boom Bip connect under the handle Belief. A standout on their new EP “Versions” is “Ulu,” which is the Hawaiian word for growth or sprout. Recorded live and mostly improvised, “Ulu” is an undulating instrumental ride we encourage you to hop on.

Stereolab co-founder Tim Gane has a side project with longtime friend and artist Jeremy Novak of ‘90s cult band Dymaxion. Years in the making, check out their beguiling, groovy sound on “Asteroid Witch.”

Master Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré reconnects with the desert blues his late father pioneered on a forthcoming album “Les Racines,” or “The Roots,” slated for early summer, and his first since 2017. Based on Touré’s deep-seated need for Malian people to be connected to their history in order to define the future, turn your ears to the timeless sound of West Africa through “Gabou Ni Tie,” featuring Amadou Bagayoko of Amadou & Mariam on guitar.

Short and sweet like the spring season, dance duo SOFI TUKKER set their sights on “Kakee,” the Brazilian Portuguese word for persimmons. This playful song is sexy, juicy, and full of double entendres. We celebrate the day with this techno-driven track.

Best friends and bandmates Ziv and Alice, known as the duo strongboi, released three songs created in a Berlin living room in 2020, laying the groundwork for a polished debut album. If you are looking for a bouncy banger or a soothing groove, look no further and cast your ears on “Fool Around.”

All of this week, Today’s Top Tune is devoted to sharing the work of some of the most promising blooming musicians that we’ve culled through the KCRW’s Young Creators Project . Hailing from Claremont and Upland, alegrías is a quartet who met as students at UCSD, spearheaded by singer-cellist Azalea Segura-Mora . Finding community in the music department and at the university’s radio station, Segura-Mora gathered like minded students for her lush, dreamy Spanglish project. You can hear the joy in “Steal My Heart.”

All of this week, Today’s Top Tune is devoted to sharing the work of some of the most gifted nascent musicians we’ve culled through the KCRW’s Young Creators Project. Claire FitzGerald, 16, Marlowe Shachory, 17, and Samara Ellis, 17 make up the dynamic punk trio Madam Bombs, who channel their fierce energy outward on their song “Get Me Out.”
