Tom the Preacher

One of God's great promises is to give us His Spirit -- the Holy Spirit. "The promise" referred to in today's verse is the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38-39). What an incredible gift this is! Sometimes we act like we're entitled to have God's Spirit living in us. We take it for granted. But we shouldn't because we certainly don't deserve this blessing. It's all of grace.Join me for today's Daily Word & Prayer to learn more.

Eternal life is, perhaps, the most important promise God could ever make. Some people don't think about eternity. They should, for after our earthly existence, each of us will spend eternity either in glory or under God's judgment. People around the world seem to know this intuitively, whether they've heard it taught by a religion or not. There's a good place, there's a bad place, and most people, whether consciously or not, try to live in such a way as to get to the good place.

It's vitally important that we learn the promises of God, believe them, and claim them as our own. His promises are the basis of our faith, and "without faith, it is impossible to please God, for everyone who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

The Shroud of Turin is believed by many to be the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Is it?
And if it is, does this provide proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Obviously, this is controversial.

Imagine being one of the twelve disciples during the last days of Jesus. Your life would have been a whirlwind!
You went to Jerusalem for Passover expecting Jesus to be anointed king; instead, He was betrayed, tried, and crucified.
You were crushed, confused, and disappointed, and then He rose from the dead!
You went home to Galilee, and He commanded you to go to all the nations.
Now, you're back in Jerusalem awaiting Pentecost, and you have a pressing question: "Is it at this time that You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?" How did He answer and what was the one final point He wanted to teach His disciples?

The Great Commission is the last command Jesus gave before being exalted to His Father's right hand. It follows His claim to have all authority in heaven and on earth. This commission is important -- really important. So, we must ask: What is the operative action of the Great Commission? What are we to do as a result of this command?

After Jesus rose, He had two primary messages that He repeated in one form or another;

Have you ever done something you're ashamed of, and it seems like the whole world knows about it?
If so, you might identify with how Peter felt after he had denied three times that he knew the Lord. A failure. Unworthy. Humiliated. After all, he had boldly pledged only hours before that he would never deny the Lord, and before the night was over, he did just that. He was in desperate need of being restored.
