Jesus, praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, was deeply distressed at what He was about to endure.
Who wouldn’t be? After all, crucifixion would be a terrible way to die. It was intended by the Romans to be a public display of torture and agony so that no one would ever consider doing what He had done. However, Jesus seemed more concerned about a “cup” than the actual crucifixion. What was this “cup” He was referring to? And why was it not possible for it to be taken away?

Yesterday, we saw the wonderful benefits of good speech and were warned of the destructive consequences of bad speech.
Do you want your lips to speak what is right?
Do you want your mouth to be a fountain of life?
Are you tired of saying things you soon regret that you said?
Would you like to tame your tongue and your son's mouth?
I have good news and bad news.
First, the bad news: You cannot tame your tongue.
Join me for today's Daily Word & Prayer to hear the good news of how you can turn this to your advantage.

Most people greatly underestimate the power of their words, both for good and for bad. Solomon didn't want his son to make this mistake, so the importance of speech is a common subject woven into the proverbs.

I find it interesting that people want to rule others even though they can't rule themselves. If we want our boys to become mighty men, they must first learn to rule their spirit, in particular, to learn to control their anger

Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of the most eventful week in the history of the world.

Note: This is a continuation of yesterday's message.
Roz and I have five children, three boys and two girls. As the sole breadwinner in our family and having lived in expensive coastal areas (Washington, DC, and San Diego), I've had to be extra smart about money. Here are some practical things I learned and that I have tried to pass on to my sons.

Proverbs has much to say about instilling a "Proverbs work ethic" in your sons. It's one of the greatest gifts you can give them, for it will be quite difficult for them to succeed in life without it. This work ethic is typically described as being diligent. It is often contrasted with being lazy, and these people are called sluggards. Yuck!. What a terrible word! Let's work hard to ensure our sons are never called "sluggards."
