Tom the Preacher

Young men in America are facing a crisis.  They are lonely,  socially isolated, lack proper role models, fall behind in their education, and struggle to find purpose in life.  My suggestion if you want your son to excel as he grows up and takes his place in this world is to raise him according to the wisdom of Proverbs.
Join me for today's Daily Word & Prayer as we begin a study of the Book of Proverbs with a special emphasis on what a dad should be teaching his son.

Life is filled with ups and downs.
David had suffered a catastrophic loss. While he and his warriors were gone, his city was attacked, burned to the ground, and all their wives and children had been taken. The pain of loss was overwhelming. Fortunately, David found strength in the Lord and rallied his men to pursue the villains. They came upon the Amalekites' camp, attacked them, and slaughtered the enemy.
And then we read some incredible words of hope: So David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken.
Join me for today's Daily Word & Prayer to how you, too, can "recover all" after a painful loss.

What's been your most painful loss?
The untimely death of a loved one?
The loss of your job, your house, your marriage?
     An investment that goes bust?
     The loss of your health?
Whatever it is, I doubt it can compare to what David lost at Ziklag because he and his men lost everything.
How does one get through a total disaster?

Have you ever had someone try to kill you?
I haven't. I'm not aware of anyone who even wanted me to die. Therefore, try as I might, I can't grasp the test David faced when Saul fell into his hand, and he had the chance to eliminate the person seeking his life. How did he respond to his greatest test?

God's Spirit had departed from Saul, and now he was subject to the worst deeds of the flesh. The young ladies were praising David for his victory over Goliath and Saul's heart raged with jealousy. When his attempts to kill David fail, he hatches a sinister plot to end David's life.

God blesses unity, and nowhere is unity more important than among leaders. Competing for position, vying to be first, thirsting for recognition -- this type of selfish ambition often becomes more pronounced the closer one comes to receiving it. Therefore, it's a beautiful thing when a leader shows true humility toward one of his peers. Such humility invites the blessing of God.
