This version of The Little Mermaid was first published in 1837 by Hans Christian Andersen and tells the tale of a young mermaid who wants nothing more in life than to live her life on land with mortals and fall in love. As we learn, mermaids live up to 300 years, but the life of a mortal is very short. Still, the Little Mermaid gives up her tongue (by literally cutting it out) and endures the pain and blood of having legs formed from her tail. Every step she takes is brutally painful and bloody, but she endures because this is the life she so longed for. Unfortunately, the Prince she comes across and rescues takes her into his life as only a friend and remembers a different woman, though similar to her, who was his true rescuer. He is reunited with this woman, and though the mermaid gets a chance to get revenge and continue to live as a mortal, she is consumed by her choice and dies instead, leaving the Prince to lead a happy life with his new bride.
The Little Mermaid was republished numerous times in its history, eventually becoming a much different story altogether by the writers at Disney. An important message is lost in the retelling; however, as the mermaid is never given the same redemption. As in this original tale, she takes the burden unto herself and, instead of the death she believed would occur, is taken into a beautiful spiritual realm of peace where her immortal soul can be at rest.

Poem transcript:
little tree
little silent Christmas tree
you are so little
you are more like a flower
who found you in the green forest
and were you very sorry to come away?
see I will comfort you
because you smell so sweetly
I will kiss your cool bark
and hug you safe and tight
just as your mother would,
only don't be afraid
look the spangles
that sleep all the year in a dark box
dreaming of being taken out and allowed to shine,
the balls the chains red and gold the fluffy threads,
put up your little arms
and I'll give them all to you to hold
every finger shall have its ring
and there won't be a single place dark or unhappy
then when you're quite dressed
you'll stand in the window for everyone to see
and how they'll stare!
oh but you'll be very proud
and my little sister and Iwill take hands
and looking up at our beautiful tree
we'll dance and sing
"Noel Noel"

Poem transcript:
Late lies the wintry sun a-bed,
A frosty, fiery sleepy-head;
Blinks but an hour or two; and then,
A blood-red orange, sets again.
Before the stars have left the skies,
At morning in the dark I rise;
And shivering in my nakedness,
By the cold candle, bathe and dress.
Close by the jolly fire I sit
To warm my frozen bones a bit;
Or with a reindeer-sled, explore
The colder countries round the door.
When to go out, my nurse doth wrap
Me in my comforter and cap;
The cold wind burns my face, and blows
Its frosty pepper up my nose.
Black are my steps on silver sod;
Thick blows my frosty breath abroad;
And tree and house, and hill and lake,
Are frosted like a wedding-cake.

Cinderella was written by The Brothers Grimm in 1812. The story is far different from the one you've grown up with and far darker. Cinderella loses her mother and her father marries an evil woman with two daughters. They are rich and immediately hate Cinderella. They put Cinderella to work in their home, constantly throwing lentils into the fire and demanding she pull each bean free. When Cinderella hears of a ball with the Prince, she wants more than anything to go. Listen as she finds a way.
This is the original fairy tale of Cinderella, sometimes found in older fairy tale compilations as The Little Glass Slipper. It utilizes the myth of oppression and victory and showcases how an honorable person can find justice in the face of adversity. The story has origins in a Greek tale by Strabo from 7BC, called Rhodopis, where a beautiful slave finds herself the new wife to the king of Egypt. Other versions, published in Italy in 1634 and France in 1697, also focus on the same themes of oppression and victory. In scholarly literature, the name Cinderella has taken on an archetypal meaning of the persecuted heroine, and the story is, of course, rebooted and retold numerous times every generation.

Listen as I read to you in soft spoken ASMR to the fairy tale, The Mouse, Bird, and The Sausage, by The Brothers Grimm. The story is a parable about seeing greener grass on the other side and refusing to see the value in life right before you. The story is tragic and the bird, responsible for the choices throughout the story, begins to see what he was missing all along.

Discover the tale of Rumpelstiltskin as I read to you this classic fairy tale. The story begins with a greedy miller his daughter. He tells the king that his daughter can spin wheat into gold and the king immediately takes her into his possession and makes demands. Of course, the miller's daughter does not have the power to spin wheat into gold and begins to cry. A little man hears her cries and promises to spin the wheat into gold night after night. On the third night, he tells her that she must promise her first born to him in return. She agrees, of course, and the little man spins her another room of gold. The king is so delighted by the miller's daughter, that he takes her as his queen and they give birth to a child one year later. The little man comes for his reward, but tells the now-queen that she can keep the child if she can guess his name. She is unable to guess, but luck is on her side when one of her messengers hears the little man shouting his own name, Rumpelstiltskin, in a joyous fire dance one night.
