The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery presented the 2019 American Portrait Gala on Nov. 17. Tommy McFLY covered the red carpet event with NBC4. Anna Wintour talked about the candid moment of being photographed by Annie Leibovitz. Lin-Manuel Miranda told us about asking Michelle Obama to present the honor and Clive Davis made it clear, Tommy's not invited to his Grammy Party. The joyous evening brought attention to the Gallery which is a National Treasure. These six new additions are on display to the public thru August 2020 in Washington DC.
National cultural icons, celebrities and artists from across the country, and raised more than $2 million in support of the museum’s endowment for exhibitions.
The event honored Frances Arnold, scientist, engineer and Nobel Laureate; Jeffrey P. Bezos, tech entrepreneur and philanthropist; Earth, Wind & Fire (Maurice White [posthumously], Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson), award-winning American band; Lin-Manuel Miranda, composer, lyricist and actor; Indra Nooyi, business executive; and Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue, U.S. artistic director and global content advisor of Condé Nast.
