In my relationships with women, we talk about what intimacy means for us, we know that intimacy isn't always synonymous with sex, we know that intimacy shouldn't just be reserved for sexual or romantic partners, we know that intimacy means different things to different people, we know that there are different types of intimacy, we have emotional intimacy, we have intellectual intimacy, we have physical intimacy, we have experiential intimacy, we have spiritual intimacy, we have trust, we have acceptance, we have honesty, we have safety, we have compassion, we have affection, we have good communication, we know that intimacy usually doesn't happen in a flash because it must be built, we know that intimacy doesn't always come easy, we know the health benefits of intimacy, we help each other not feed intimacy fear, we know what our boundaries are and why, we know what's happening and identify the symptoms, we communicate effectively about our feelings, we are open to receiving professional help, we nurture our intimacy, we make it a point to show affection, we make an effect to learn more about each other, we set time aside for each other, we unplug and focus on each other, we show physical affection (even without sex), we tackle sensible projects together, and we talk about what intimacy means to each other.
