The St. Lawrence County Artists' Studio Tour celebrates its 31st anniversary this weekend. And more than 20 studios and galleries are opening their art spaces to the public. The event gives art admirers some insight into "how they do that." The tour weekend highlights some of the talented artists and craftspeople - painters, potters, photographers - who live and work in St Lawrence County.

Most active duty servicemembers and their spouses vote by absentee ballot. It can get complicated, and that’s why military bases offer a lot of voting support. But a new survey suggests military spouses vote much less than servicemembers, and they may not be getting the help they need to cast their votes.

That's Democrat Tedra Cobb from Canton. She's challenging Republican incumbent Elise Stefanik, along with Green party hopeful Lynn Kahn.

Cobb argues that her time at a St. Lawrence County lawmaker prepared her well to represent the North Country in Congress. "I stand by my record of eight years on the St. Lawrence County legislature," she said at Monday night’s congressional debate in Albany.

But Cobb's tenure, including a year as vice chair, was complicated. The board became mired in partisan divisions and wrestled with budget issues as the economy staggered into a recession.

Four species of trout can be found in Adirondacks waters. Of the mix, two were introduced from the outside, one from Europe and one from the western United States. The two species which are native to the area are technically not trout at all, but relatives of the arctic char.
