  • North Country leaders react to U.S.-Mexico trade agreement
President Trump's trade announcement drew mixed reactions in the North Country yesterday. For some leaders, the fact that Mexican and U.S. negotiators worked out their differences is encouraging. It's a sign that the U.S. and Canada will be able to do the same. But others say the deal with Mexico could be disastrous for the U.S.-Canada relationship.

  • North Country at Work: Paul Seward on the ER and emergency medicine
Earlier this summer Paul Seward, a long-time emergency physician who retired last year, published a memoir called "Patient Care: Death and Life in the Emergency Room." Dr. Seward spent his childhood at the North Country School - the boarding school in Lake Placid - and returned to work in the Adirondacks from 2000 to 2017, including time spent as the Director of the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and Adirondack Medical Center.

There are a lot of ways to get to Santanoni, the great camp near Newcomb in Essex County that boasts some of the most remarkable architecture in the Adirondacks.
You can't go by car, but you can ski and snowshoe in winter. In summer or fall you can hike or take a horse-drawn wagon that takes visitors each day into the historic area. But one of the most fun, easiest ways is by bicycle.
