  • Preview: Blue Mountain Lake Flotilla on Sunday
    The 2nd Annual Blue Mountain Lake Flotilla will set sail from Prospect Point on Blue Mountain lake this Sunday evening, highlighting a day of music, food and Adirondack history. It recreates an event that took place in August of 1882 when the guests of the newly opened Prospect House - the first hotel in the world with electric lights in every room - celebrated with a grand flotilla that made its way around Blue Mountain Lake.

  • Turf dispute revives tension between town and city leaders in Plattsburgh
    Plattsburgh Mayor Colin Read says he wants to see his city grow, literally.
    He's proposing to annex some vacant land near SUNY Plattsburgh to help attract developers and manufacturing companies, expanding the city’s geographical footprint by seven percent. But that land is in the Town of Plattsburgh, and Town Supervisor Michael Cashman has called the plan "hostile."

  • New York moves to abandon North Creek-Tahawus rail corridor
    New York state is moving forward with a legal process that would remove the railroad track leading from North Creek to Tahawus, an industrial site that borders Adirondack Park’s High Peaks Wilderness.
    The move comes as a new train operator has voiced interest in using the track to haul freight.

Betsy Kepes reads and writes near Colton and stops by from time to time to share news and reviews about what she's reading.
    She spoke with Todd Moe about two of her most recent favorite books - a Canadian novel, and an Adirondack memoir, both written by older women in their 70s. Betsy says “time” is a character in both books.
