I didn't realize my mother was a person until I was 13 years old and she pulled me out of bed and put me in the back of her car, and we left home and my dad with no explanations. I thought that Ma was all that she was and all she had ever wanted to be. I was wrong.
As we made our way from Virginia to California, returning to the places where she'd lived as a kid in foster care and as a teenager on the run, repaying debts and keeping promises, I learned who she was in her life-before-me and the secrets she had kept - even from herself. But when life on the road began to feel normal, I couldn't forget the home we'd left behind, couldn't deny that, just like my mother, I, too, had unfinished business.

Length: 5 hrs and 55 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-13-17

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
A contemporary novel about a baby boy abandoned near the Miccosukee Reservation in the Florida Everglades west of Miami. The surrounding community of Native American neighbors adopt and raise the young John Doe as their own, and when they realize that John has the ability to come and go with such stealth that his communal family members seldom notice, he is given the surname Ghostwalker.
John Ghostwalker is a kindhearted and precocious young man, a superior student, and a socially peculiar human being. He has an almost obsessive need for a secret sanctuary where he can find respite from a world he sometimes finds quite overwhelming as he follows his dream to become an accomplished architect.
The Ghostwalker File is, first and foremost, a book about self-discovery and the importance of community, but it is also a love story that may restore your belief in soul mates.

    Just okay
The beginning of this book stared out great but it started to fizzle out by the middle of the book. I found myself restarting chapters because the book had lost my attention. The narrator did a good job.
I received a free review copy in exchange for an honest review.
    Interesting
It took me a few chapters to get into the story. I couldn't figure it out. I'm used to books that jump straight into action or romance or intrigue. This book seemed to be going nowhere. Yet I kept listening. Next thing I know I'm into it. I'm interested in the characters and in finding out where the story was taking them. I ended so listening to the entire book in one sitting. There were parts I wasn't as interested in, but the book kept my attention until the end. And I liked how it ended.
The narrator did a decent job. It took me a bit to get used to him but by the end I couldn't imagine Ghostwalker being voiced by anyone else.
I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a story about someone on their life's journey, meeting those that'll play large roles in their life, and finally finding themselves and their destined path in life.
We should all have some 'ghostwalker' in us
    Any additional comments?
This is a story about a boy, his position in the world, and the connectedness of it all.
Ghostwalker was a person but his spirit took center stage in this listen. You had to appreciate his "circle of life" mentality and his desire to care for things, big and small. I really enjoyed getting to know this character and his world.
The narrator was perfect. Ghostwalker did not speak a lot so when he did, the narration made you take notice.
I don't know if this listen is for everyone but I definitely enjoyed it.
    Thoroughly enjoyed this story!
If you're reading this review you're wondering why I like the story so much. I would have to say it is because the main character always lived true to himself. And, I loved the way the community that had adopted him loves and cares for him so unconditionally. It Illustrated so well the uncomplicated life that some people live and how simple we could all live. the story was kind of a feel-good story even though they go through hardship and struggles.

Rich with dark humor and a keen insight into the human condition, this debut fictional release from author Brent Jones delves into life's most pressing trials - destructive relationships, love, loss, and pursuing happiness.
    Members Reviews:
A life-like (for all too many) story with hope...
Although this story was one of a life-like struggle, I found it an easy (though not light) listen and it kept my interest, throughout. The narration by Wyatt Baker certainly helped in that cause. Even as the book delves into alcohol, sex, and drugs, along with the language of such, it illustrates that nobody is beyond hope if only they are open to the possibility of a changed life.
This book is certainly worth the cost of a credit for anyone interested in this topic and especially anyone that has a family or friend enduring similar struggles.
A review copy audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in return for this unbiased review. My hope is that this review helps in your decision to obtain this book.
    Great Read
    Any additional comments?
The Fifteenth of June by Brent Jones was a good read. Drew Thomson finds himself haunted by his past and living a constant struggle. This sometimes took dark twists and turns that the reader will never expect. I really enjoyed reading this book.
    Moving. Sad. Eventually Hopeful
Where does The Fifteenth of June rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
The Fifteenth of June is outside my comfort zone of usual reading / listening. It isn't an easy listen. The protagonist, Drew, isn't easy to like, yet I identified with him. I understand the impact of an event that has the power to negatively impact an entire family for the time frame of almost a generation. And how eventually, we find how to overcome it and not be destroyed.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fifteenth of June?
There are many. The culmination of the family's and individually, Drew's letting go is a strong moment in the story.
What does Wyatt Baker bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I haven't read the print or ebook edition. Wyatt Baker does an admirable job! A strong listenable voice, an ability at dramatic narration without being cartoonish. A good choice for this work.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I mentioned that I identified with the book. And I titled the review to represent my reaction.
    Any additional comments?
This is well thought out and well written. The narration was excellent, professional.
    I appreciate those attributes.
It was entertaining and worth the time investment involved.
Thanks for the opportunity to listen and offer my opinions on this work!A review copy was gifted to me at no charge. In return, I am happy to provide an honest review.

    Members Reviews:
Entertaining gay coming-of-age mixed with Texas politics and reality TV
It's rare for a book to touch on so many worlds - Texas politics, New York publishing, reality television, being gay in the 80s, being gay in 2014 - and have so much to say about all of them. From its hilarious opening to its bittersweet climax, The Pink Bus is never boring and just about never goes where you expect. Kicking off with Patrick Monaghan, a long shot gay candidate for an open US Senate seat in Texas, shot by an unknown assassin during the most important speech of his life, Christopher Kelly walks the reader through all the key moments in Patrick's life that led to that improbable moment. A big-hearted story that could have felt stale in another writer's hands consistently entertains thanks to a rich supporting cast of characters and Kelly's pitch-perfect ear for dialogue.
    Funny, addictive, believable and cool
With heart, punchy dialogue and some entertaining snark, The Pink Bus is a can't-put-it-down read that resonates for anyone that has gone through a winding coming-out journey -- or just enjoys a mash-up of celebrity and politics that fits perfectly with the 2016 zeitgeist.
    A smooth, stylish, believable read.
A smooth, stylish, believable read that traces a fallible politician's short career in the public eye.
Fine literary fiction: funny, melancholic, ambitious, and original

Patrick Francis Monaghan, the first out gay man to run for the United States Senate from Texas (âHomosexualis Texas Politicus â something exotic or endangeredâ), steps out onto the front porch of the Fort Worth Stockyard Museum and is shot. As he lies there, in and out of consciousness, he ponders the âcosmic cruelty that here he was dyingâat age forty, just when he had found what had eluded him for so long, a place in the world.â Monaghan experiences a series of flashbacks from his life, beginning in kindergarten at P.S. 42 in Staten Island, New York, where he was called âPeppermint Pattyâ by the other kids, an âepithet [that] would stick to him like gum in a girlâs long hair.â
The Pink Bus by Lambda award winner Christopher Kelly is fine literary fiction. Itâs funny and melancholic in turn, but always ambitious and original. Kelly is a multitalented writer. Heâs equally at home with humor, pathos, and political commentaryâsometimes in the same sentence. After the shooting, the âAmerican public was shocked, dismayed, for a few days, deeply ashamed of itself.â This is not easy to do, folks.
Kelly makes good use of the history of assassination and attempted assassination in the United States, beginning with John F.

    Author: Elizabeth Tan
    Narrator: Eloise Mignon
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 1 min
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-01-17
    Publisher: Audible Studios
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Elena Rubik can't seem to stay dead. She persists: as a set of corneas, as a newsletter subscriber, as a member of fanfiction forums. Her best friend, Jules Valentine, meanwhile, is unwittingly inveigled into an indie film turned corporate branding stunt. When Jules leaks information about the true story behind the video - by then an overworked viral meme - wannabe investigative reporter April Kuan is assigned the case. But as April trails Jules all over Perth, she, too, becomes ensnared in the machinations of shady corporate interests as the very laws of physics and time begin to bend.
Rubik is a wide-ranging, brilliantly intertwined novel in stories that slips outside the borders of realism. Spotted with disappearances and mysteries and told with a sharp-edged wit and cutting social commentary, it is an original and ingenious reflection of technological anxiety, loneliness and connectivity in the Internet age.
