Camping, Bushcrafting, Survival Skills. The Rules of Three. These are your survival tools now. There’s No thermostat… No four walls or ceilings. No reset button. Out There, it’s you against the elements, every hour, of every day.

And Rain… Oh… Rain will soak you to your core, cover your skin and gear with damp mold and mildew, and drain your body of its strength with every step and every breath you take.

If you’re not ready… If you don’t respect the monster that is exposure… it will Kill you. And that’s not hype… Not Click-bait. That’s reality. Hard hitting, in your face, but real.

It doesn’t take long for hypothermia to set in when your clothing and skin are wet. Upwards of 2500 people die from Hypothermia each year in the US with wet conditions and the homeless being the contributing factors. If you are bugging out to the woods… my friend, you are homeless. And there are other dangerous risks that are associated with trying to survive in wet conditions.

Weakened Immune Systems, Skin Irritations and Fungal Infections, Respiratory Conditions, and rapid core temperature loss. Your body cools off 25 times faster when wet. And if that wasn’t bad enough… you can actually overheat and have heatstroke if your body is wet, while in a hot humid environment. Who knew?

There’s a reason why we practice the Survival Rules of Three… 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. Maximizing and Force-Multiplying your Air, Shelter, Water, and Food is key to your survival in extreme conditions.

3 Hours Without Shelter in extreme weather conditions is meaningful, and important, and should not be overlooked. Our bodies and by extension, our gear, need shelter. Shelter from the heat, the cold, and Yes… the damp and wet.

Tonight, we are going to live and learn vicariously through Jeremy’s own real-world experience of surviving through an extreme wet-condition environment for an uncomfortable extended period of time in the woods of North Carolina.

Tonight, It’s another episode with The Dirty Garden Hoes. Y’all may remember back to episode 190 with Britt & Mike from Refuge Medical and how impressive they were. If you have not listened to that episode yet, I encourage you to do so. Britt & Mike were fantastic guests, and we learned so much from them.

Well, since then, Mike reached out to us and wanted to come back on the show to discuss Homeopathic Medicine, which he did… and that show will drop on Friday. You don’t want to miss that episode… it’s that good.

Brittany… on the other hand, or Britt, as she likes to be called, also reached out to us but not about The Bunker. She pitched an idea to Rhonda to add her as a Host on The Dirty Garden Hoes show. They spoke, and without hesitation, Rhonda brought her on board.

Britt brings with her a ton of knowledge and experience from Homesteading to First Aid to Shooting and Self Defense. She also has lots of valuable connections to potential guests for y’all’s benefit and enjoyment.

So, for the remainder of this year, 2025, we will drop episodes of The Dirty Garden Hoes show midweek, once each month, between our usual Friday Night Episodes.

Missy and Annett, who you already know from previous episodes and have loads of experience in preparedness and homesteading, will be on the show from time to time when they have a topic to share with y’all. 

If all goes well this year for the DGHS, Rhonda and Britt will launch The Dirty Garden Hoes Show as a full Podcast, independent from The Bunker, on their own schedule next year, in 2026.

Britt makes her debut appearance tonight as a host and introduces her first guest to the show… Jessica Rice-Ree.

Tonight, we’re talking about Fall Season Crops

Finally…

The morning air is crisp again. The days are getting shorter. And although it’s still warm, or even hot during the day, most people are winding down their gardens for the year. And why not? With Labor Day and Football just a few days from now, the summer is coming to an end. Kids are back in school. Grocery stores are already stocking up on Halloween Candy. Before ya know it, they’ll be jack-o-lanterns sitting on bails of straw on front porches and coffee houses pushing Pumpkin Spice Lattes to passer byes. And yes… I’m a big fan of Autumn. I love it. But our gardens don’t… Or do they…?

Ya see, homesteaders know that Fall may be the end of Summer growing season, but they are keenly aware that it’s just another beginning for their gardens. Cuz when one door closes, another always opens.

The start of this season is important, if you want groceries in your pantry throughout Winter. It’s all about planting cold-hardy greens, root vegetables that thrive underground, and cover crops that rebuild the soil, so next year’s harvest is even stronger. And it’s about turning challenges, like shorter days, dropping temps, and pests looking for a last meal, into opportunities for your family's resilience and abundance.

If you’ve never planted in fall, this is your moment to start. Spinach, Kale, Carrots, Radishes, Garlic, and so many more, these aren’t just crops, consider them nutritious survival insurance.
