A similar thing happens in life when wicked people around us exert influence that blurs our spiritual clarity. This is nothing new. David describes this phenomenon in this psalm and even structured the psalm’s verses to reflect this spiritual static. But the psalm ends on a high note as David reminds us that God runs the world!

King Solomon was a student of the Torah and was undoubtedly familiar with this Torah portion. He even seems to have commented on it in the book of Proverbs using a very clever play on words … a purposeful misspelling, actually. How many ways can you say ‘eternity’? We discover several ways – or approximations, anyway – in Psalm 9, which is a song of thanksgiving. This is also our first acrostic psalm (whose verses follow the order of the Hebrew alphabet) – well, halfway through the alphabet, that is. The last half of the alphabet picks up in Psalm 10. (But that’s another story.) This amazing psalm is full of twists and turns as it describes how God will deal with the nations of the world in days to come.
