Toy Power Podcast

Today we discuss something that affects every single figure ever made - Articulation. How many points is too many? Do you prefer 5 points or 50? Does it ruin the asthetic for you? And does any of this even matter if you're a Mint-On-Card collector?!? Trent then takes us on a trip down Saturday-morning memory lane as we look back on the terror that flaps in the night - Darkwing Duck! You thought that He-Man had some cheesy names, these guys take it to a whole 'nother level! Darren then puts Trent and Frank to the test with another of his amazing quizes!

"It's the most most wonderful time, of the year!" Better than Christmas, your birthday and holidays all combined, it's New York Toy Fair 2018! Today Darren takes charge as showrunner and kicks off a wide ranging discussion about all the great reveals. So much stuff to cover from every company and every line: MOTU, Savage World, Kesih Boxes, Star Wars Black, Marvel Legends, the REAL Ghosterbusters, GI Joe, Stranger Things, DC Multiverse, Jurrasic World Fallen Kingdom, MegaBloks, Gremlins, TMNT, Aliens, Star Trek, Predator, Transformers, Voltron and oh my god I need a rest now! Out of all that we discover that McFarlane and NECA are apparently the same company, Frank likes to eat his figures and Ben puts the thing on the thing! Oh and we still hate blind bags... We also shoutout our good friend Olvier Jones who as well as being a loyal listener, is a toy maker in his own right! Find his work @eyemaketoys on Instagram!

The team is one man down as we cover the recent new from all over the toy-sphere. Masters movie fail (again), New TMNT reveals (again) and big changes ahead for Power Rangers (first time). There's also talk on new Watchmen and DC essentials as the early reveals from New York Toy Fair trickle out.

We then change gears and pull back the curtain on how the toy-grading system works. Are you a C9 from far but C4 up-close? And is it true that the AFA actually open your toys??? Whats the offical stance on price stickers?

We also help out some fellow collectors with a variety of tips. Where to find bargins, how to work with glass shelving, lighting, tiered figure stands and much much more. Something for everyone! So find a spot on the carpet, drink your milk and get ready to as we all learn a thing or two about the wonderful world of collecting!

We kick things off with a burning topic that has been setting fire to one of our favourite properties - The newest incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Which character has us worried? Which character is now The Fonz? Which character is downright ASSASINATED!?! (Hint: its the same one!) After calming Frank down, we move onto the reveals from the Superbowl - Jurrassic World 2, MI6, Avengers and the long awaited SOLO!

We finally wind up our Over 50s Club with some absolute bangers and some clangers. Who cried at Toy Story 3? Who dislikes Power Rangers? Who had Pound Puppies? (Hint: It's all of us!) Are the classic Trolls really ugly? Was Darren really around for the creation of the Smurfs? Are all of Ben's Lego minifigs the real deal? (Hint: YES to all lof the above!) And the big one: How many office meetings were required to organize Darren's Masters of the Universe parties? (Hint: It has something to do with Eric Cartman) Did we miss a toy line? TELL US!

We close it off as Darren takes us through Robocop and the Ultra Police. The toys, the Frank Miller comics and even a genuine sequel to the original (and still amazing) movie! Yes folks, in the 80s a toyline aimed at kids, based on an R-rated film was just FINE!

And for (almost) the first time, you can see our ugly mugs live on YouTube! Subscribe to Transformernut and literally SEE what all the fuss is about! https://www.youtube.com/user/Transformernut

Today we pick up where we left off as we continue our look at 80s/90s toylines that made a half century worth of figures. Some big properties feature some of which you may have had, others, not so much. We learn about the not-so-princess-like origins of Barbie, why our friend Davey is the ultimate Bronie and just who the heck is Hector the Dragon? There's even some shout-outs to Ben's Mum the cos-player and Frank's Mum; our next special guest?!?!

We then round out the show as Frank puts the three DC fan-boys to the Ultimate Marvel test with a quiz that will help you prepare for Black Panther and Infinity War! How did the boys do? Listen to find out! Excelsior!

We made it! Who would have thought, we'd make it to 50 episodes. Not us! :p In celebration of this milestone we stick to the numeric theme and start a recap of toylines with 50 (or more) figures! No way we'd get through all that in one sitting so here are your first 10. We've got some big well known brands, as well as others that may slipped under the radar. Along the way we learn what terrifys Frank and a particularly dodgy tactic employed by a younger Trent...

We then hit up the longest movie review we've ever done - no less than the controversial Star Wars: Last Jedi. Much like the audience scores, the team is very much split on this. We don't get punchy like our friends on Breaking the Panel, but there is much to discuss : Spoilers beware! What did YOU think of the film?

A big thankyou to all our listeners, subscribers, friends of the show and the Giant-Size Team Up Network for helping us to this numerical acheivement! Half century is a solid start! *raises cricket bat to crowd applause*

We start things off with bang - or crack of the beer can thanks to Ben! 'STRAYA!

There's a whole bunch of news for us to cover - exciting Turtles news from NECA, fresh MOTU pics from Super7, new DC Multiverse figures, Transformers Masterpeice, Mythic Legions, the upcoming She-Ra cartoon, Jurrasic Park and even Bucky O'Hare. Is a Master movie ACTUALLY happening? What the heck does "soft-prep" even mean? And are Lemon and Lime Hot-Cross buns a legit thing?

We then dive head first into one of Netflix's gems - The Toys That Made Us. Hear just what the boys think about this amazing show. Well except for Frank - cause he's a slacker! What's in store for season 2? Did Trent just become a Trekkie?

And finally, get ready for some video content so you can finally see our ugly mugs - but more importantly, our great toys. :)

We kick off 2018 with a heavy topic : The Decline in Toys. We look at all the angles frmo the changes within the Toy Industry, a drop in quality, toys vs the age of mobile technology and toy companies ability to receive feedback. We do ALL this and more, despite being a few host short. Despite being stuck at work, Darren still finds the time to contribute with a fascinating run down of the history of department/toy stores in our hometown. But it's ok, we don't end on a downer because as an adult collector, is it fair to say this is a golden era? Trent then tests us with a wide-ranging quiz and hear about our early scores for 2018. Oh and there is a special event that happens in this episode that brought Ben Sachse to tears!

It's that time of year when we look back to the year that was. In this case, Trent decides to cast a look even further back, with an all time classic opening. Our unofficial fifth member of Toy Power is back as Davey Damaged joins us once again. We open with the big guns - The Best Toys of 2017. We cover it all from the stuff you loved, to the stuff you didn't, our fav movies, best value and some surprises. We also read-back your feedback on all that 2017 had to offer. Special shoutout to Lux Toy Collector on Instagram (@luxtoycollector) for being our top contributor - go follow him now! Ben then stress-tests our brains for the last time this year with Comics themed quiz that proves we know about as much as Jon Snow... Closing out the year is our final edition of Latest Scores. Thank you for all your support in a great first year for our show! Shoutout to the lads at Giant Size Team Up Network helping us become the token Aussie show in their collection. Have a safe and happy New Years and we'll see you all in 2018!

Today we get festive as the silly season is upon us! Our un-official fifth member of Toy Power has returned, Mr Davey Damaged, who helps regal us with Christmas related stories and banter. Everything from Frank's crazy Spanish customs, Ben's huge-Farm adventures and Davey's legit Outback Bogan tale.

We also cover Xmas movies and the list is EXTENSIVE - is there a fav of yours we missed? Then there's our own "Santa reveal" stories. It was at this point, Darren tells the saddest Xmas tale you will ever hear. Seriously, you WILL cry! But we bring the humor back as Trent dresses as the creepiest Snowman ever and we look at the worst presents ever recieved.

If that wasn't all enough, Trent has a genuine surprise for the team that caught us all off guard. Other highlights include, Davey's "Cyber-Grip", a 2-minute pitch on the classic toyline Hook (RUF-FEE-OOOOOO!) and we wash it all down with best-of clip highlighting just how many times we goofed over the year. Wow!

Merry Xmas from everyone here at Toy Power!
