Dad Joke
Aaron: I’ve heard there’s a new miracle pill to cure procrastination
I’d probably try it tomorrow
Training for Success
Aaron: Terry, we talk about you being a sales guy, and a seminar guy, but not everyone knows in reality you spent years as a production floor manager. That’s where you came up with your concept for 52/15 Training. Let’s start with an explanation of what that means.
The 52/15 Concept
I’m going to shift 180 degrees and start with what it isn’t.
In most garment decorating shops what does training consist of?
Watch what he does
Help her load shirts and observe
Watch these YouTube videos
There needs to be some level of onboarding training on your overall operation, your company culture, expectations, etc., before you dig into specifics.
52/15 is the ongoing training for all you employees
Setting aside 15 minutes every week for training and education
Bite size slices of information about what you do every day, that are easy to share and easy to consume
People want to work for a company, and employer, who shares and teaches and helps them to be better at what they do.
Aaron: It feels like a no brainer. Why do so few people do something like this?
The first one is always, I don’t have the time. We’re too busy. We’re already behind as it is! That’s why I hired you!
I want to dig down on the real reasons in a minute
Aaron: Is this where Crisis Management vs Training Based Business comes into play?
A lot of uphill struggle in a business comes not from too much business but from lack of training or expertise of your staff
Most of the garment decorating shops I’ve been in struggled with just getting product from point A to point B
Problem solving is just opening your eyes and opening your mind
Aaron: What are some those real reasons so few people do this type of training?
I don’t want to give up my secrets.
Translation: I don’t have confidence in myself or my business so I’m afraid my employees will know I’m faking it and start their own business.
My employees don’t care and don’t want to learn. They just want a paycheck.
I don’t think I could come up with 52 things to share over a whole year
