Humans have pushed the frontiers of exploration in space by sending probes to the edge of our Solar System and beyond. Just how far have we traveled, and what have we seen along the way? How do we keep in touch with the most distant objects, and what is left to learn from these probes? We will look at the very old Pioneer and Voyager missions past Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, as well as the New Horizons mission past Pluto and into the Kuiper Belt.

Im Mai 2024 fegte ein gewaltiger Sonnensturm über die Erde. Inzwischen hat er den Namen "Gannon Sturm" erhalten. Polarlichter flimmerten auf der ganzen Welt, bis über den Palmen von Hawaii. 

Aber hübsche Lichter am Himmel sind bei Weitem nicht alles, was so ein solarer Sturm mit sich bringt.

Stars appear mostly white to our naked eye in the night sky. Sometimes maybe a little red or yellow. But only faintly. In reality however, stars are as colorful as a rainbow! And their colors tell us a lot about the properties of each individual star, like a calling card. Their age, size, temperature, past and sometimes even their future is encoded in their chromatic appearance.

Es gibt Neuigkeiten zu K2-18b. Über diese potentielle Ozeanwelt mit potentiellem Leben haben wir schonmal gesprochen, jetzt kamen aber neue Daten raus und gingen sofort durch die Presse: die Biosignatur schein bestätigt! Haben wir also wirklich Aliens gefunden? Aliens auf einer gigantischen Wasserwelt, kaum 124 Lichtjahre von uns entfernt?

Natürlich ist es mal wieder nicht ganz so einfach. Die Zeichen sehen ganz gut aus, aber man darf nicht vergessen, kritisch zu sein, denn: It's never Aliens. Until it is.

Let's go travelling to different stars! Well, not literally to stars, but to a different view of the stars! Once we start moving north or south, the nightsky changes, showing entirely new constellations, stars and even deep space objects, which are invisible from other parts of the Earth. Have you ever caught a look at the Magellanic Clouds of the southern sky? Do you know what the view is on the poles? Paul takes you on a journey, just hop on in!

Es gibt eine Sache, da können wir Astronomen den Rest der wissenschaftlichen Community so richtig auf die Palme treiben. Denn, wir erdreisten uns doch tatsächlich, einfach sämtliche Elemente des Periodensystems, mit Ausnahme von Wasserstoff und Helium, als Metalle zu bezeichnen! Wie kommen wir auf soetwas absurdes?!

Es hat tatsächlich etwas mit dem Urknall zu tun, mit den ersten Sternen und dem Sternenstaub, der tatsächlich der Grundbaustein für praktisch alles ist, aus dem wir bestehen.

Außerdem gibt's News zu den gestrandeten Starliner Astronauten, dem gefährlich erdnahen Asteroiden 2024 YR4 sowie einem blauen Geist auf dem Mond!

Today, Paul takes you on a journey through the winter hexagon, which has two visitors this winter: Jupiter and Mars! Winter is one of the greatest time for stargazing. Granted, it's cold and you'll need your warmest clothes, but the nights are clearer and calmer now than during any other time of the year! Plus, the darkness still comes early, so you don't have to be up throughout the late hours of the night.

Es ist mal wieder Zeit, über Asteroiden zu sprechen! Denn dieser Tage jagen gleich zwei bahnbrechende und doch komplett unterschiedliche Meldungen zu diesem Thema durch die Presse.

In den Proben des Asteroiden Bennu, die 2023 von der Sonde OSIRIS-REx zur Erde gebracht wurden, fand man nun tatsächlich die fundamentalen Bausteine des Lebens. DNA- und RNA-Basen, Aminosäuren und sogar salzhaltige Mineralien. Zeigt uns Bennu, dass das Leben durch Asteroideneinschläge seinen Anfang auf der Erde nehmen konnte? Oder ist es doch nur irdische Kontamination, wie damals beim Asteroiden Ryugu?

Gleichzeitig schlug das ATLAS Teleskop Ende 2024 Alarm: Ein Asteroid dort draußen nimmt Kurs auf uns. Bisher war er unbekannt, und jetzt verzieht er sich auch schon wieder in die Tiefe des Alls, wo wir ihn kaum beobachten können. Doch er wird in wenigen Jahren zurückkehren. Wie hoch stehen die Chancen auf einen Einschlag? Wie schlimm wird es im Ernstfall und was können wir tun?

Have you heard? January 25th is supposed to be some once-in-a-lifetime huge planet viewing day! Maybe you've seen pictures on social media, showing all the planets lined up and visible as if you stood right beside them! Is it true? Will the planets suddenly become much more amazing on this one day?

Well, it's always good to take these hypes with a grain of salt. Planets are wonderful to observe and right now is a great time to do so, but as to if something spectacular will happen on January 25th... Well, Paul will clear things up!
