There's a few new things that arrived this week (in addition to the new occupant in the White House) so during the latest TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #403) I'll add those musical gifts to my usual programming while doing my best to unify a diverse array of musical style's into six cohesive sets over the course of today's program.

LEO KOTTKE* (with MIKE GORDON) from his latest offering 'Noon' gets the ball rolling and following that is BETH ORTON'S take on the Marc Bolan song 'Hippie Gumbo' from the late Hal Willner produced Bolan tribute album, 'Angelheaded Hipster.' Then I'll add BADFINGER, CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN, GOMEZ, and PAUL KANTNER & THE JEFFERSON STARSHIP to round out the first set.

I'll lead off the second set with a cut from the latest by WIRE and more from GORILLAZ , then sprinkle in additional new material from THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS and BRAD MEHLDAU surrounding it all with other music from FILA BRAZILLIA, PHILLIP GLASS, and the song 'Sweet January' by the band IF.

Another stellar track from J.S. ONDARA (about losing his restaurant job because of the virus) gets the next set going, followed by JOHN LENNON'S 'Working Class Hero,' then tracks from PETER BLEGVAD, THE FEELIES, SAN FERMIN, and LAURIE ANDERSON all sonically add to the mix.

During the fifth set, in celebration of the Cleveland Browns foray into the playoffs for the first time in ages, there's songs about Ohio from JOHN BASSETTE ('Hello Cleveland'), THE BLACK KEYS, THE LOW ANTHEM, PETE TOWNSEND,THE PRETENDERS, MODEST MOUSE, and several others.

We've reached the middle of January already surrounded by unprecedented events that include an insurrection and riot, a second impeachment, and the forthcoming inauguration of a new president, all while cases of 'Covid' continue to ravage the country. With all the uncertainty swirling around us, I'm going to continue to do my part in bringing some relief to your overloaded senses by presenting the latest edition of TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #402).

Among today's program highlights will be the premiere of the latest piece of music from the GOLEMS OF THE RED PLANET (their rendition of John Zorn's 'Hutriel') during the final set as well as a track by CAPTAIN BEEFHEART in honor of his 80th birthday.

This week I'm returning to my regular Friday time slot as I've finally caught up with all the issues which lead me to be a day late over the holidays. On this edition of TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #401) I've got a fun packed show in store with several artists who share the same week of my birth as I do.

The new year has arrived and as we begin anew, so does another milestone as TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES celebrates it's 400th episode. Ring out the old and ring in the new is the understatement of the year during these covid times and what better way to finish off what remains of 2020 than by recognizing all the great music from amazing artists that helped us all cope with the turmoil that surrounded us. Here then is the latest TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #399), my Best Of 2020 Special, with my selections of favorite releases to grace our ears and bring a smile to our faces.

Greeting from snowy Akron, Ohio! As 2020 drags us all kicking and screaming towards it's final weeks, I have been working my tail off to finish the 9th annual TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (#398) Christmas special. So in keeping with everything else around us that we've had to adjust to as the 'New Normal,' I was forced to delay this years program by a single day. Well it's finally arrived (just like all your Christmas presents from out of town this year).

I'll begin the show with several songs about snow from FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE, GALAXIE 500, and CLAUDIA SCHMIDT, before segueing into SAM BUSH'S rendition of 'Let It Snow, ' ZEE AVI'S take on the song 'Frosty The Snowman,' the late DANIEL JOHNSTON'S cover of 'Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer,' before completing the set with songs from THE BEACH BOYS and THE PERSUASIONS.

Later on there's a set with spoken word pieces from the PAUL KANTNER WINDOWPANE COLLECTIVE (a spacey version of 'Twas The Night Before Xmas') and ROBERT MIRABEL ('Christmas Eve' at Taos Pueblo), both interwoven with pieces from JOE BYRD, JORMA KAUKONEN, SUFJAN STEVENS, CALEXICO, and BRUCE COCKBURN.

Akron's own GLENN LAZEAR anchors the fourth set with their new holiday song, 'Christmas Inside,' followed by locals PHIL KEAGGY, THE JAMES GANG ('Collage'), THE PRETENDERS (singing a Xmas classic), and finishing up with THE HIFI'S ('Christmastime Is Coming Around Again'), RALPH CARNEY'S 'The Happy Solstice Song,' and THE WAITRESSES 'Christmas Wrapping.'

Plus I've got ELLIS MARSALIS, MARS WILLIAMS & FRIENDS (doing 'Oh Tannenbaum' from 'An Ayler Xmas Vol. 2), LOS STRAITJACKETS (doing 'Feliz Navidad'), BRAVE COMBO, and during today's final set, THE BEATLES FAN CLUB CHRISTMAS MESSAGE (1964), surrounded by PAUL COURTRIGHT (a Beatles/Vince Guaraldi mash up), THE SHINS, and a rare Christmas song by XTC.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Thanksgiving is nearly upon us so on this week's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #394) I'll make note of it beginning with the JAMES GANG and their song 'Thanks' followed by DAEVID ALLEN'S whimsical 'Turkeybird's Breakfast' and set the tone further with the positive vibe of JIM'S BIG EGO'S spirited rendition of 'Feelin' Groovy.' You'll be dancing around the kitchen table by then so I'll add the JEFFERSON AIRPLANE'S ' Third Week At The Chelsea,' CRACKER'S 'Hallelujah,' and the legendary track 'Fazon' by SOPWITH CAMEL all as part of the first set.

The new MARY HALVERSON'S CODE GIRL album starts off the next set (with special guest vocals by ROBERT WYATT) and is followed by RALPH CARNEY'S homage to said vocalist, HENRY KAISER & SERGEI KURIOKHIN, another new cut from RICK HROMADKA, a blistering LEO KOTTKE melody, and the quirky 'Sing-Along' song from JOE BYRD & THE FIELD HIPPIES.
