Concerns about whether the U.S. Postal Service can meet the demands of delivering voter ballots during the pandemic have escalated on multiple fronts. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is cutting short lawmakers’ summer recess with a vote expected Aug. 22 on legislation that would prohibit changes at the agency as tensions mount. Rep. Peter DeFazio, chairman of the House transportation panel, is among those calling for Louis DeJoy, the head of the Postal Service, to step down. Monday, two lawmakers called on the FBI to investigate whether DeJoy or members of the Postal Board of Governors may have committed a crime in slowing the mail. And, the House Oversight and Reform Committee called on the postmaster general to appear before the panel Aug. 24.
