The governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, has proposed a fuel tax increase of 45 cents to provide funding for infrastructure improvements. The hike would be phased in from October of 2019 to October of 2020 in three 15-cent increments and would give Michigan the highest gas tax in the country. The tax would generate an estimated $2.5 billion of revenue in one year.
