Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large truck are projected to have increased by 1 percent in 2019, while overall fatalities are projected to have seen a decline of 1.2 percent, according to preliminary National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates. The Fatality Analysis Reporting System provides to Congress and the public annual data regarding fatal injuries in motor-vehicle crashes. The system accounts for any large truck on a public highway involved in a crash, including large pickup trucks. A large truck is defined as having a gross vehicle weight rating of greater than 10,000 pounds. The data does not distinguish between commercial and privately owned trucks.
