Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have introduced legislation that aims to get rid of the 12% federal excise tax on certain heavy-duty trucks, tractors and trailers. According to legislation sponsor Doug LaMalfa, a Republican representing California, the tax is outdated, unnecessary and prohibitive. The current tax adds $12,000 to $22,000 on to the cost of a new truck.
