U.S. trailer orders surged in September, preliminarily clearing 50,000 to reach the third-highest monthly total ever, according to ACT Research. A year earlier, orders were 18,675. ACT’s Frank Maly said dry van orders fueled the rise as they climbed to almost four times as many as a year ago. Cancellations were less than 1% of the backlog, he said. The record for trailer orders is 58,228 in September 2018. FTR put orders at 52,000, with company executive Don Ake citing expansion and replacement demand, as well as demand among dealers, for the high number.
