As capacity tightens in the trucking industry, experts have noticed a number of carriers are announcing pay hikes for drivers. For example, Schneider National is raising pay for its team drivers. Those with one year or more of experience will receive 4 cents per mile more, while those with zero to one year of experience will receive an additional 2 cents per mile. DriverReach CEO Jeremy Reymer detailed the reasons carriers are boosting pay, including two that are tied to the COVID-19 pandemic: the retirement of older drivers and the surge in e-commerce, which requires tens of thousands of local drivers.
