  • What Expenses Should I Plan for While Traveling Abroad?

Kat is considering joining me on a Celtic Invasion Vacation. But she had a few questions.

She writes: "I know this is probably basic for you but I have never been able to traveling a lot, so I really don't know what Europe is like. So I need a closer budget to see if it is even in the vague realm of possibility. Just curious for estimates on the flight closer to the date. Best I could find right now was $900 I know it will change closer just give me a guess. Lunch probably in the $10-15 a meal higher, lowerish? Are drinks comparable? Are prices in general comparable? I'm not really asking for specifics. Anything I might be missing?"

I do my best to provide as much information as possible, including: cheapest airline travel to Ireland, expected currency exchange rate, cost of meals and drinks, plus how it all works with my Celtic Invasion Vacations. You can find details at celticinvasion.com

  • Christmas Before Thanksgiving, Starbucks Red Coffee Cups

People are already talking about Chirstmas and it's not even Thanksgiving. We're just a week after Halloween. Should they? As a consumer, I believe so. You may not agree with me in today's episode.

I think the Starbucks red coffee cups meme is dying down now, but it was dumb to be up in the first place. Very few Christians actually are boycotting Starbcuks. Do you even care?

  • Randy Wothke & Marc Gunn are Kilted Kings

Louisiana Renaissance Festival starts this weekend. You will find me once again at the Paradox Pub, but this year, I'm performing with a new duo with Randy Wothke (of The Rogues) called Kilted Kings.

Kilted Kings feature Marc Gunn on autoharp and vocals and Randy Wothke on percussion. It's kilted Celtic music with driving rhythms and tunes, upbeat songs and heart-wrenching ballads.

You can enjoy our music three times daily at the Paradox Pub drinking local micro-brews at 11:15 am, 2:00 pm and 4:15 pm.

This is fun, rhythmic Celtic music that you don't want to miss!

  • Best Smoothie Recipe for Kids (and Healthiest)

I love smoothies. The very best tasting to me are all-natural ingredients. With this recipe, I even figured out what to do with all of that fruit that was going bad. I dump it in the freezer for my smoothies. When there's leftover smoothies, I use it to make popsicles. I've been using this recipe for my daughter since she was two-years old. She still loves it. Now she even loves making it too.

I have two new kids game to review. This is the first. The game is called Fandooble. It's a dice game where you're goal is to win the most treasure from the dragon's horde. I gave this game to my 4 year-old, about to turn 5-year old daughter, and she loved it. She was totally engaged for the entire 30 minutes it took to play the game.

You can get the game on Amazon via my affiliate link though it looks like there are more dice in this version. Find it here: http://marcgunn.com/fandooble

  • Best Kickstarter Tips & Rewards

We conclude part 3 of the series talking about internet marketing and promotion from a series of questions that Rie Sheridan Rose wrote me. This episode is all about my Best Kickstarter tips and reward levels, plus how to create a marketing plan.

Rie Sheridan Rose wrote: "I am doing a platform building challenge, and today's task is to interview an expert. You are the best marketing guy I know. Would you be willing to do an email interview--like ten questions--about marketing and Kickstarter in particular, because I may need to do some projects soon, and you always do so well. :)"

    Here are Rie's questions:

    8) I’d like to focus on Kickstarter a bit. This is sort of overwhelming to me. How do you go about creating a successful campaign?

    9) I’ve seen great variety in tier rewards—yours included. Is it better to tie directly to the product you are creating, or to make the rewards peripherally based? For example, on the Pirates vs. Dragons CD, you had dragon eggs as a reward. Another Kickstarter I know is offering stories in the world as a reward. Do you think one is better than the other?

    10) What one piece of advice would you give someone trying to build their first marketing plan?

  • What's the Best Social Media Platform? Should I Try Patreon?

I continue answering questions provided by Rie Sheridan Rose in today's episode where we focus on the best social media platform for artists, musicians, and writers and then we delve into why you should try Patreon.

Here are the next two questions answered:

    6) Which social media platforms do you recommend for artists? Is Twitter effective, or does Facebook provide better exposure?

    7) You have been enjoying fair success on Patreon. Do you recommend it as a leg of an artist’s marketing plan? Does it work better if you already have an established fan base? How did you go about creating your tiers and rewards for this platform?
