My guest, Cherene Saradar, is a travel nurse anesthetist or nurse anesthesiologist (CRNA). It's like being a travel nurse except in her speciality (anesthesia) which is a type of advanced practice nursing. There is a huge shortage of anesthesia providers across the USA so she fills in at hospitals that are short staffed and need help. She does short term contracts (usually around 3 months) of work, lodging is covered, and then she's free to do what she wants with her time, which is how she has more time than most for fun travel. She has rearranged her life in the past few years so that she can travel almost 6 months per year.

My guest Justine King is a Foreign Service Officer for the US Department of State. This job allows you to live and work around the world, receiving a new post every couple of years!

Justine is a U.S. Diplomat for the US Department of State and has worked as a Diplomat for four years. She is currently stationed to Khartoum, Sudan where she serves as a political/economic officer working primarily on environment, science, technology, and health related issues at the US Embassy. She has also served and lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. While in college, Justine studied abroad in Brussels, Belgium and was able to travel to France, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom during her time in Europe. Fast forward to the height of pandemic, Justine started documenting and creating content about her travels and life overseas, as a way to encourage young people to travel and see the world.

Today's episode is so inspiring. My guest Emilie Greenhalgh has lived and worked in some of the notoriously most dangerous places in the world all in the act of service.

Emilie is a humanitarian aid worker who has lived and worked in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Niger. In late 2019, burnt out from the stress of living in these places and managing huge projects with impossible deadlines, she quit her full-time job to travel the world and write a memoir about her experiences. Then, as we all know, the pandemic shut down the world. Emilie was in Lombok, Indonesia at the time and decided to wait it out on the small island of Gili Air. After she finished writing her book, she wasn't ready to go back to a full-time job that dictated where she lived. She'd always dreamed of becoming a consultant but thought it would only be possible after she'd accrued 20+ years of experience. However, in order to stay location independent, she decided she would give it a try. Two years later, she has so much work that she has to turn down offers. Now, she mainly writes multimillion dollar project proposals for NGOs and does research around gender and social inclusion issues. She has also recently started trauma-informed transformational life coaching and is a yoga teacher. In her spare time, she writes articles for publications such as Newsweek and Lonely Planet.

Today we are discussing the unique travel job of being a flight nanny with my guest Makena Moody. 

At just 21 years old, Kena has transported over 165 puppies to their owners across the United States. As a such frequent flier, she knows the ins and outs of traveling with animals, how to keep them safe, and even has diamond medallion status on Delta. Her job is to love and comfort pups all the way home to their new family. Rather then cargo shipping puppies, she is there so they can be with her during the whole travel process.!

My guest today is Niki Brogen, a former Elementary School English Teacher that taught in South Korea for 3 and a half years with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and Design and a minor in Business. She was responsible for educating grades 3 through 6 (700+ students per week!) as well as organizing weekend teaching programs. Although the role was incredibly life-changing, Niki knew it was time to return to the USA this past February 2022 to start the next chapter of her life. Currently, she is producing 2 Podcasts : Anime Go! & Melanin Muses, Building her Art Portfolio, Designing her own website, as well as building her career as a Voice Actress among many other projects.

Our conversation is filled with excellent tidbits and advice on how to join the EPIK program in South Korea, but also the realities of packing up a life at home and moving abroad. There are highs and lows and Niki honestly reflects on her triumphs and hardships as she navigated it all.
