Treasured Truth

When we are well in our spirit, we are holy. When we are well in our soul, we are happy. And when we are well in our body, we are healthy.  Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and God wants us to keep our bodies holy, happy and healthy, as we strive to honor Him in every part of our lives.

For those of us who struggle with overeating, we’re not able to deal with it as the sin of gluttony, because we don’t look at it that way.  We call it a problem, but we’re very hesitant to call it sin.  And in our society today we really don’t call anything sin anymore, because it makes things like that more palatable to us, changing them from what God calls them.  Pastor Ford will help us re-evaluate our view of overeating and suggest some practical ways to overcome it.

Some people don’t eat to live, but they rather live to eat.  So today, Pastor Ford will talk about “death by fork”—or overeating.  And, there’s a Bible word for what we’ll be hearing about today—it’s called gluttony.  Pastor Ford says that we should tell the truth and shame the Devil, facing the truth that in the Bible the sin of overeating is called gluttony.

As we continue to look at how we are victorious through Christ, Pastor Ford will remind us that we all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God.  That fact made us unqualified to come before a Holy God.  But then Jesus gave us His name.  And when He gave us His name, we became qualified.  Because no longer do we have our own names, but now we can do everything in His name.

The reason why all we do is win, win, win is because out of the seven and a half billion people in the world today, God chose each of us as believers to be part of His family.  He chose us!  So, after considering that amazing truth, one might then ask, how could we not win?

Pastor Ford will explain today that if we are praying for something that is not attached to the purpose of God, then we shouldn’t expect it to happen.  The questions we ought to ask when we want something from God are these—will this glorify the person of Jesus Christ?  Will this fulfill the purpose of Jesus Christ?

Pastor Ford will remind us today that when Christ is not valued in our lives above all, He is not valued at all.  A lot is out of place in our lives because Christ is not in first place.

We need to remember that because Jesus is invincible, we can be victorious through our trials.  We need to know that life is more than just what’s happening to us.  Life is about what’s happening for us. All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to His purposes.

Pastor Ford brings an encouraging message about how tragedies, like the deaths of our loved ones, can be turned into victories.  As we look at Matthew 27, he shares that the theme of this chapter indicates death can be transformed into triumph because of the death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
