Treasured Truth

In honor of Father’s Day coming up this weekend, today Pastor Ford will be challenging men to be “men on the wall.”  And if you’re a man on the wall, then you have to understand what God has given you.  You have to know what’s in God’s Word as the benefits and the provisions that He has given you to make you stay on that wall!

As he begins to challenge men today to be “men on the wall,” Pastor Ford will describe how John the Baptist didn’t believe in gray areas.  For him, it was black or white and he didn’t care who you were, he’d get up in your face and say, ‘Thus sayeth the Lord!’  And that’s what we need today—if you’re going to be a man on the wall, then you can’t be mealy-mouthed, you can’t be namby-pamby, and wishy-washy.  You have to stand on the truth in God’s Word!

Pastor Ford points out that when we consider all that God is—His sovereignty, dignity, authority, mystery, superiority, pre-immanency, piety and majesty—but then we still think that we’re “all that and a bag of chips,” then there’s something wrong with our worship!

Do we really understand that worship is not a spectator sport, but rather it’s a participator sport?  Pastor Ford will remind us today that all of us need to be engaged in worship.

As we continue to consider the privilege of worship, Pastor Ford asks, “Where are those with the same mentality that David had when he wrote, ‘I would rather be a door keeper in the house of the Lord?’  Where are those who come into the Lord’s presence with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise? Where are those who are glad to be in worship?” 

Today on Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford reminds us that Jesus is not a deity by default.  Instead, He’s God’s sovereign choice to be the Lord of the Church.

All of our praise belongs to God.  It’s custom-made for God.  It was designed for Him.  And He is the only One Who’s worthy of our praise.  So, Pastor Ford will remind us today that just the fact that we can come into God’s presence and give Him praise is truly a privilege for us.

Praise is fitted for God.  He’s the only One that deserves our praise.  He’s the only One that desires our praise. He’s the only One that demands our praise.  And He’s the only One that delights in our praise.  So as we begin this study in Psalm 65, we’ll discover that God indicates that we owe Him praise and that ultimately, it’s a privilege for us to be able to give Him that praise.

When we become involved in ministry at our local church, we need to remember  Who we’re working for.  That it’s God Who has called us to this work and ultimate we’ll be accountable to Him. God has gifted each of us in special ways and has given us the things that He wants us to do.

How can we encourage saints to serve in their local congregations?  By helping them to understand that God led them to their local church, not just to attend worship and get the Word.  God led them there to work. And as Pastor Ford will remind us today, that’s because we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good work!
